To begin I would like to state that this is the first time I have had the experience of reading Poe and as such the reading process was greatly
intriguing. The short story I chose was the Masque of the Red Death, which I found to be very dark and vile. From the beginning of the story to the
end I found great concentration on the issues of life and death, among other things, which made the story very dynamic for its size. Another point of
interest I found in the story was Poe's concentration on historical accuracy as he successfully attempts to illustrate the feudal system at its best.

This is important to recognize because it provides the reader with the image that death is a hideous thing as Poe illustrates the figure as having a
masque with an uncanny resemblance to a "stiffened corpse" and is described as having dressed in clothes of the dead. This figure within the

This story is written about the story of Prince Prospero's attempt to avoid a dangerous plague known as the Red Death. The way he avoided the

LLC this story takes place at the castellated abbey of the "happy and dauntless and sagacious". The Red Death is a sickness that swept many
people in the town and caused their death. People who had the Red Death showed many different symptoms of sharp pains, dizziness, and
hematidrosis then ended up dying within 30 minutes of being sick. One night Prince Prospero notice a figure a form or shape in the corner. The
figure had on a robe with blood splattered on the front of it they had on a mask with a face as if they had the Red Death. The prince wanted to find
this being to have them hung due to the fact of the belief that they had something to do with the Red Death. The people Prince Prospero sent to
capture it were very scared so the prince pursued it with a dagger. As the prince has him into one of the seven rooms he traps him into the corner. The
person turns around and as the being looks the prince in the face and died. A crowd of people mad about what happened took the mask off the figure
to surprisingly find out no one was underneath

detective fiction and gothic mystery has been credited to Edgar Allan Poe. Poe was a troubled mind and was traumatized by many horrific
experiences in his life. However, Poe was able to explore these dark feelings and put them on paper. The dark events and misfortune of Poe's life

"The Mask of the Red Death" reflected Poe's traumatic experience with tuberculosis. Tuberculosis left Poe traumatized with the painful memories
of his mother, brother, adoptive mother, and wife dying slow and painful deaths. "The Mask of the Red Death" is supposed to symbolize a
pandemic such as, tuberculosis as a destructive force that leaves behind nothing but carnage and death. In "The Raven" similar tragedies are
reflected. The speaker explained, "Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal
ever dared to dream before; But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token, And the only word there spoken was the whispered
word, "Lenore?" This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, "Lenore!" " The speaker starts having dark and abnormal thoughts as he
looks into the dark, while mourning Lenore's death. The speaker starts to imagine hearing the name of his deceased lover. His sorrow is causing
