2. There are Forms of Prayer:
1. Blessing – It is to do or to say good about someone There are two kinds of
blessing:
a.) The Blessing of God towards man – when He gives us material and spiritual graces.
b.) The Blessing of man towards God – when we thank Him for all his graces. We must
bless the Lord at all time (Psalm 34:1)
2. Adoration – it is to prostrate ourselves in silence before our God. Come in, let us bow
prostrate ourselves and kneel in front of Yahweh our maker, for he is our God (Psalm 95:6)
3. Petition – it is to ask God for spiritual and material graces.
4. Intercession – It is to ask God for spiritual and material graces in behalf of our
neighbor.
5. Thanksgiving – it is to thank God for everything He has given us.
6. Praise – it is to glorify God for the very fact that He is God, apart from what He does.
3. Kinds of Prayer:
1. Vocal Prayer – it is to give glory to God through our voice and our songs. We must pray with a
clear voice, and accompany the words with our heart.
2. Meditation – it is to search in the silence of our heart for God’s love and will.
3. Silent Prayer – it is the silent and loving contemplation of God’s love.
4. Prayer of the Heart – it is the condition of continuous prayer, in which we repeat endlessly:
“Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner”(Luke 18:13)
The Enemies of Prayer
1. Distraction – it turns our attention away from God, and makes us concentrate on other things.
We can overcome it through the vigilance of the heart.
2. Spiritual Dryness – it makes us cold towards God. We can overcome it through perseverance
in prayer.
3. Worldly Occupations – they take us away from prayer by occupying us with our daily activities.
We can overcome it by alternating work and prayer, and by making our work like a prayer.
4. Discouragement – it drives us away from prayer when our petitions are not immediately
answered by God. God does not answer our petitions if the things we ask for are not good for
our salvation.
