Next year’s conference will be held on the beautiful campus of Texas State University-San
Marcos. As we unite under the umbrella of multicultural education, our theme, A Global Odyssey:
Exploring Our Multicultural Education Connections & Challenges, is sure to evoke energized dialogue
and research that will explore issues related to equity and social justice. During this year’s conference, the
TX-NAME website (www.txname.org) was unveiled. Although currently under construction, notices and
information regarding the 12th Annual Conference at Texas State University-San Marcos will be posted.
Also, the organization celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the National FORUM Journal. TX-
NAME has sponsored the National FORUM of Multicultural Issues Journal for the past three years. In
addition to capturing the scholarship of papers presented at the Annual Conference, the Journal exemplifies
the vision of Texas NAME that all students have full and fair participation in a just society.
Dr. Patricia Larke prepares to present award to FORUM Journal Founder & Dr. William A. Kritsonis,
Journal Founder, poses with Dr. Green of Memphis State University.
As this was an election year, we welcomed three new Board members, Pamela Melcher, Kay
Norman, and Augustina Reyes. Also, our Immediate Past President, E.L. Walter-Sullivan, was elected the
Director for NAME Region VI (AR, LA., NM, OK, and TX) and member of the National Board. While
commenting on the appointment, Dr. Marcia Shelton titled Region VI as TALON (Texas, Arkansas,
Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico). She aptly stated, “It succinctly captures what we do in a word;
soar like eagles and reach out with our talons to share our talents, scholarship and best practices to better
advocate for the unserved and underserved on matters relative to NAME.”
We, the Texas Chapter of NAME under the leadership of our Board and President-Dr. Donald R.
Collins, believe that we are poised to become a force for multicultural education in this region.
We hope to see you all next year in San Marcos!
Humbly Submitted,
Earnestyne L. Walter-Sullivan, Ph.D.
