Endoplasmic reticulum

1. 3- Endoplasmic reticulum (ER)
 a web-like series of membranes in the form of flattened sheets, sacs, tubes, creates many membrane
enclosed spaces.
Functions:
1. circulation and transport
2. storage of proteins and minerals
3. synthesis of lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins
4. A large surface area for enzyme action.
Type :
 Rough ER - studded with ribosomes--- site of
synthesis of many proteins
 Smooth ER – without ribosomes ---site for
synthesis of steroids and other lipids, Ca++
