What is a Portrait ?
What is a Portrait ?
• Representation of a person
• Expression is dominant
• Intent: - display likeness, personality
and emotion/mood
• Outward and inner likeness
The Lumina Spark Portrait
The Lumina Spark Portrait is the foundation of all Lumina
programmes; a personalized psychometric assessment which helps
individuals explore their own personality, increase their self-
awareness and adapt behaviours to improve personal and business
relationships and assist in creating effective teamwork.
The Lumina Spark Portrait is unique to each individual and gives a
colourful and personalized framework for better self-
understanding and improved working relationships with others.
In a facilitated process the portrait highlights individual strengths
and possible limitations, individual diversity, possible blind spots,
and provides powerful action-based learning that enhances
interpersonal skills.
4 to 8 to 24
Lumina Spark measures personality and
preference at three different levels:
4 color energies
8 psychological types
24 behavioural traits
The Four Colours
A Four Colour Lens
Organised. Observing. Reliable.
Objective. Evidence Based
Intimate. Collaborative. Evolving.
Empowering. Calming
Sociable. Spontaneous. Imaginative. Cheerful.
Demonstrative
Purposeful. Direct. Bold. Competitive.

Sometimes we overplay our strengths
Suspicious. Bureaucratic. Stuffy. Bogged down in
data. Indecisive. Analysis Paralysis
Reliant. Unassertive. Can’t say
“no”. Dependent. Passive
Excitable. Impulsive. Easily Distracted.
Disorganised. Social Butterfly
Driven. Aggressive. Controlling.
Lacking compassion. Dis-empowering
The Four Colour Energies
No order of colours is better than any other
Each combination offers unique qualities and
strengths
Everybody is capable of reading others and building
colourful rapport
We must never use knowledge of the colours to
“excuse-away” our over-extended behaviours
Everything that
irritates us about
others can lead to the
understanding of
ourselves.
– Carl Jung
What’s the BIG idea?
The Lumina Spark model is based on what has become
termed – the Big5 research paradigm. This research
represents the latest and most scientifically grounded
thinking on how to model personality.
Used in concert with the best thinking of Jung’s
model, the Big5 emerges from a vast arena of empirical
research and stands up to the test of time.
Lumina and The Big5
A total of five factors are used to define
personality.
These five factors are measured in bi-polarity to
form “normal” distribution instead of an “either-
or”.
The choice is not forced.
Within each of the factors are sub-factors
(“qualities”) that are scored on a continuum.
All factors are measured directly from the
questionnaire – nothing is assumed.

The Lumina Colour Mandala
The Four Colours and the Eight Aspects
Expanding from 8 Aspects to 24 Qualities
One of the unique elements
of Lumina is that it
investigates personality to
the level of 24 qualities.
This allows learners to
investigate specific qualities
that can be found in each of
them.
This precision and
specificity fosters focussed
questioning and deeper
understanding of individual
strengths and limitations.
This allows detailed insight
into preferences and effort.
Each of the 24 qualities is
aligned to its opposite and in
doing so creates 12 pairs of
qualities.
The polarity and duality of
these qualities is helpful in
explaining the influence of
and the adapting to different
situations and context.
Understanding the balancing
of the sets assists in
analysing behaviour and
planning for continued
development.
The Three Personas
Another unique part of the Lumina
model is the designation of the three
personas – allowing learners three
different “views” of their personality
and assisting in understanding how they
are displayed in different situations.
Your Underlying Persona
o This is who you are at your most
natural
o This is what you do with your energy
when you are just “being”
o Not everyone will know this part of
you
o What qualities do you have a natural
strength in?
Your Everyday Persona
o These are the qualities that you make
a conscious effort to use
o This is the “you that you approve of”
and how you like to be seen by
society, work etc.
o This is what you choose to do with
your energy when you are aware of
others being around
Your Overextended Persona
o This is who you are under pressure
o This is where you put your energy
when you are stressed
o Are there any qualities here that show
up as greater than in your everyday or
underlying personas?
o How could you harness these qualities
sooner?
Summary and Overview:
o Body language
o Surroundings and working environment
o Choice of words and tone of voice
o Greeting and meeting
Speed Reading:
Valuing Diversity
o Teams are made up
of lots of different
kinds of individuals.
o Lumina Spark
recognises the value
that all of these
different individuals
bring to a team’s
effectiveness.
o Teams also have
their own identities
(notice the larger
circle)
Lumina Spark is:
• Personal
• Practical
• Collaborative
• Effective
• Empowering
• Inspirational
