3. iDeen Ramadan Guide
Ramadan is a beautiful month revolving around ‘ibadah, a gift from Allah
to erase our sins and to help us establish a strong, long-lasting bond with
Him.
Alhamdulillah we have entered Ramadan in a good state! Again, this year, Allah has blessed His servants
with the splendid month of Ramadan. The month of seeking forgiveness and hastening towards
Paradise is back. The month of strengthening our relationship with the Almighty Creator and His book,
the Quran, is back.
The month of Badr, the conquest of Makkah and Jihad is back. How blessed are we! Indeed, these are
the moments when we should all find ourselves in sujood for thanking Allah for this blessed gift of
Ramadan.
There is an amazing aura and energy that surrounds us in this month, enabling us to be a better person
than the rest of the year. No matter how heavy one sleeps, Ramadan empowers you to wake up for
Suhoor halfway through the night. No matter how errant you are, you try to be better; SubhanAllah!
My brothers and sisters, this is the month of the Qur’an. Spend much time with it, as well as reflect
from the words of Allah .ﷻ
Open your heart to it, let Allah speak to your soul. There are people who have made dua through out
the year just to reach Ramadan, yet didn’t. You might not have prayed to be here, but Allah chose you
to reach this month of forgiveness upon forgiveness. Alhamdulillah!
So how does this month help us in spiritually getting closer to Allah ?ﷻ In one word: Fasting. Allah has
made the purpose of fasting crystal clear in the Holy Qur’an:
“O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that
you may become righteous.”1
When we fast with this aim in mind, we come out feeling spiritually rejuvenated, and this feeling is
wonderful! Fasting is an absolutely unique spiritual experience. It is an act of worship that testifies to
our submission to Allah ;ﷻ we can’t go on without water or food normally, but for Allah –ﷻ we can, a
thousand times over!
In Sha Allah you will all find this guide benefical and JazakAllah for reading.

The Best of Deeds is That Which is Done Consistently, Even if it a Little.
When the The Prophet ()ﷺ was asked about which deeds are most beloved to Allah, he said,
“Those which are continuous, even if they are little.”2
Ramadan is a blessed time of the year when you feel the absence of the devils (literally!) and can focus
on your spirituality better than at any other time. Ramadan IS special! But, how can you maintain a
spiritual high?
1. Fast: "The Messenger of Allah ()ﷺ said, 'Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of
reward, he will be forgiven his previous sins."3
2. Reading Taraweeh: The Prophet ()ﷺ said, “Whoever prays qiyaam (Taraweeh) with the imam until he
finishes, it will be recorded as if he spent the whole night in prayer.”4
3. Read the Holy Qur’an: The Messenger of Allah ()ﷺ said, "Whoever recites a letter from the Book of
Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-
Lam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.5
4. Spend time in Allah ﷻ House: Spending time in the mosques, is an easy way to earn great rewards. In
fact, every step we take towards the mosque will raise us a degree and expiate a minor sin.
The Prophet ()ﷺ said, "He who purifies (performs Wudu') himself in his house and then walks to one of
the houses of Allah (mosque) for performing an obligatory Salat, one step of his will wipe out his sins and
another step will elevate his rank (in Jannah)."6
5. Smile: The Prophet ()ﷺ said, “Every good is charity. Indeed among the good is to meet your brother
with a smiling face.”7
6. Removing harm: Abu Barza al-Aslami said, "I said, 'Messenger of Allah, show me an action by which I
will enter the Garden!" He said, 'Remove harmful things from people's path.'8
Removing something harmful from the road is an act of charity in gratitude to Allah ﷻ that is available to
almost everyone. It is a seemingly small act and yet its magnitude is so great.
7. Greet one another: The Prophet ()ﷺ said: “Those who are nearest to Allah are they who are first to
give a salutation.”9 How easy an act to gain great rewards. Alhamdulillah

8. Be Kind to your parents: The Prophet ()ﷺ said, “The best of the deeds or deed is the (observance of)
prayer at its proper time and kindness to the parents…”10
Always be patient with parents as difficult it can be at times. Always ask your parents to make dua for
you and always remember them in your duas. Always ask for their forgiveness
9. Take care of animals: The people asked, "O Allah's Messenger (!)ﷺ Is there a reward for us in serving
(the) animals?" He replied, "Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate."11
10. Control your tongue: The Prophet ()ﷺ said, “He who believes in Allah and the Last Day must either
speak good or remain silent.”12 If your company is good and the culture among your circle is such that the
tongue is only used for good purposes, it is also likely that you will become used to using your tongue for
pure purposes only.
11. Give back to charity: The Prophet ()ﷺ said, "Save yourself from Hell-fire even by giving half a date-
fruit in charity."13
Don’t underestimate the reward for giving, no matter how little when It is for the sake of Allah .ﷻ
12. Reply with peace: If someone is being harsh and mean towards you, don’t give in. Reply with kind
words and a smile.
“And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant
address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace,).”14
13. Stop swearing: The Prophet ()ﷺ said, “…The inmates of Hell are of five types….” And among them
he mentioned “…the miser, the liar and those who are in the habit of abusing people and using obscene
and foul language… “15
Never use bad language, even if you are serious or just kidding around, because you risk earning the anger
of Allah .ﷻ
14. Plant a tree: The Prophet ()ﷺ said, No Muslim who plants (trees) and from their fruits the human
beings or the beasts or birds eat, but that would be taken as an act of charity on the Day of
Resurrection.”16
15. Have good character & be truthful: The Prophet ()ﷺ said, “Whoever does not give up evil and
ignorant speech, and acting in accordance with that, Allah has no need of his giving up his food and
drink.”17
So if a person refrains from disobeying Allah ﷻ or gives up sinfulness, then this is true fasting. Meaning,
your body needs to fast with you too along with hunger and thirst.

The Power of Making Dhirk – Baker Story
During his old age, Imam Ahmad, a renowned scholar of Islam and a famous theologian, was travelling
when he stopped by a town. After salah (prayer), he wanted to stay for the night in the mosque. Owing
to his humility, he hadn't introduced himself to anyone thinking that if he did, he would be welcomed
by many people.
Failing to recognise Ahmad bin Hanbal, the caretaker of the mosque refused to let him stay in the
mosque. A baker, whose shop was nearby, watched this scene and took pity on Imam Ahmed. He
invited the Imam to stay with him for the night.
He watched as the baker mixed and kneaded the dough, tended the fire, and pulled hot loves from the
oven, all the while uttering remembrances of Allah and Istighfar (asking for Allah's forgiveness). In the
morning, the Imam eagerly asked his host about the latter's continual seeking of forgiveness. The baker
said it had become like second nature, and Imam Ahmad then asked whether the man had experienced
any reward from this practice.
The baker answered, "By Allah! No dua I made except that it was answered but one." When Ibn Hanbal
asked what that unanswered prayer was, the baker responded: "To see the famed Imam Ahmad ibn
Hanbal." At this, tears came to Ibn Hanbal's eyes and he told the baker, "I am Ahmed ibn Hanbal!"
"By Allah! I was brought to your place so that you can have your dua/wish come true."24

"I will pray for you" is one of the nicest things someone can say to you. It shows the person
cares so much they speak to Allah about you.
"At his head there is an angel, and every time he prays for him for something good, the angel
who has been appointed to be with him, says, 'Ameen, may you have likewise."

Final remarks
The Prophet ()ﷺ said, "When the month of Ramadan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened and the
gates of the (Hell) Fire are closed, and the devils are chained."25
Ramadan is a very special time for Muslims, but the feelings and lessons we experience should stay with
us throughout the year. In the Qur’an, Muslims are commanded to fast so that they may “become
righteous.”26
This restraint and devotion is especially felt during Ramadan, but we all must strive to make the feelings
and attitudes stay with us during our “normal” lives. That is the true goal and test of Ramadan.
The month of Ramadan contains the most blessed of nights – known as Laylatul Qadr – about which
Allah ﷻ says:
‘What will make you realize what the Night of Power is like?
The Night of Power is better than a thousand months.
Angels and the Spirit descend upon it with their Lord´s permission with every command;
There is peace that night until the coming of dawn.’27
On the arrival of this beautiful month, the month of Ramadan, the month of patience, the month of
gratitude, the month of guidance, the month of self- reflection, the month of repentance, the month of
change, the month of revival, the month of change and the month of victory,
I would like to extend my greetings to all readers on the arrival of Ramadan and pray that this month
full of rewards is beneficial for you and for me.
‘Allah, I ask forgiveness of You for the injustice I committed against Your servants. Whomever of Your
servants I have hurt, physically or in their dignity or in their property, give them of Your bounty which
lacks nothing. And I ask You to honour me with Your mercy which encompasses all things. I am in great
need of Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful. Ameen.’
‘O Allah please forgive all the Muslims of the Ummah, make their trials easy on them, and let us all meet
in Jannah. Ameen’
‘Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in this life and the next. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and
well-being in my religious and worldly affairs, and my family and my wealth. O Allah, veil my
weaknesses and set at ease my dismay. Ameen’
