In 1971, he purchased the Havells brand name for Rs. 7 lakhs. Over the decades, he expanded Havells India into a multinational company with manufacturing plants in India and operations in over 50 countries. As of 2022, Havells has a presence in 5 countries with 23 branches in India, 6,500 employees worldwide, and 11 manufacturing plants in India. The company has grown to become a billion dollar company under Gupta's leadership as an unsung billionaire.
