Qimat Rai Gupta dropped out of school and started his career in 1958 with Rs. 10,000 capital by founding Gupta Ji and co, which he later renamed Haveli Ram Gandhi in 1971. In 1971, he purchased the Havells brand name for Rs. 7 lakhs. Over the decades, he expanded Havells India into a multinational company with manufacturing plants in India and operations in over 50 countries. As of 2022, Havells has a presence in 5 countries with 23 branches in India, 6,500 employees worldwide, and 11 manufacturing plants in India. The company has grown to become a billion dollar company under Gupta's leadership as an unsung billionaire.
