Mrs. Downing is the coach for the varsity sideline and competition cheerleading teams. As
coach, she is responsible for coordinating practices and games to be the most productive use of
time allotted by the athletic director, while ensuring the safety of the athletes by following
VHSL guidelines. Part of her responsibly also ensuring information is distributed to parents
and athletes in a timely and orderly manner.

While a student at Radford University, Mrs. Downing was employed at the Bonnie Hurlburt
Student Center as the team leader for the Information & Event Planning Team. As such, she
regularly worked at the Information Desk located in the Student Center and was responsible
for providing customer service and issuing information to student center patrons; answering
questions by phone about activities, events, and meetings; and fulfilling general information
requests. Mrs. Downing also sold tickets to on-campus concerts and events, and reconciled
daily ticket sales and cash deposits. She provided direct assistance and support to the Event
Planning and Scheduling Manager by managing room reservations and building calendars, as
well as event scheduling. While in this position, she learned to develop the television
broadcast ads, which were sent out via closed circuit television. As team leader, Mrs.
Downing assisted with the revision of the Student Employee Handbook for the Department of
Student Activities, and the revision of the filing system for lost and found items. Mrs.
Downing also assisted in training new employees.

Director of Philanthropy: Spring 2013 – Fall 2013
Mrs. Downing scheduled, planned, and executed fundraisers in an effort to support Pine
Mountain Settlement School, a sustainability education center in Harlan, Kentucky. As
Director of Philanthropy, she was responsible to coordinate and execute fundraisers for her
sorority as well as coordinate with the Panhellenic Executive board about fundraisers and
philanthropy events held by all of Greek Life. She also organized and led a community service
trip to Pine Mountain Settlement School to assist in maintenance of the campus and
assistance with their annual fall festival.

Mrs. Downing acted a liaison between the American Cancer Society representative and the
Alpha Sigma Tau team for the first Relay for Life fundraising event on Radford’s campus to
raise money for the American Cancer Society. On top of this, she was also responsible for
organizing the fundraising events prior to the event, which included a corn hole tournament.
2015 World Police and Fire Games | June 28, 2015 - July 3, 2015

Mrs. Downing assisted in the management of team registration and individual player check-
in during the Novice Division ice hockey tournament of the World Police and Fire Games.
She was also an official scorekeeper for the national and international games. This task
required that Mrs. Downing be able to effectively communicate with people of different
cultures, as well as people who spoke different languages, in order to ensure they were
prepared to compete in the games.

Mrs. Downing was the project manager for the Up ‘til Dawn fundraising event. This included
managing volunteer schedules, creating a plan of activities, coordinating with all outside

Mrs. Downing conducted a semester long research study on the use of force by Radford City
police officers. Her team of six peers presented a proposal to the Radford City Chief of Police
to improve the reporting of incidents involving use of force by revising the use of force form,
and revising use of force training to incorporate education on the college “lifestyle”.

Mrs. Downing placed 9th in the annual Winsett Library Research Award for her research skills
and exemplary use of the library tools at Radford University. This award is given to students
