Uroš Paternu developed his recognizable and unique visual language in the nineteen with
the theoretical interpretation of his own creative process, which is characterized by artistic
analysis and systematisation. The basic and most active agent and content of the artistic
creation of Uroš Paternu is the color in all its range and dynamics, attitudes and
relationships, in violations of the rules and freedom from them with an inner depth and visual
form. In color he searches for its dematerialized nature which in a creative process becomes
a carefully thought-out composition, an echo of the artworks that resonates in the viewer's
perception and gives the impression of being a vibrating living organism.
Uroš Paternu was born in 1972 in Kranj, Slovenia. From 1991-1995 he was studing
painting and graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, Slovenia, where he also
received the Master Degree from abstract painting in the year 2000. In the year 1996 he
received the Slovenian University »Prešeren« Award for the painting »Wet living green«. And
in the same year he also received the First prize for a postgraduate study from Ivan Napotnik
Cultural Centre, Velenje. Only three years after graduating from the Academy he presents
his first independent and comprehensive exhibition in Gallery Keleia, in Slovenia.
In 2015 he was awarded with 2 Prix Award, International Exhibition Art Resilience,
Musée de Peinture de Saint - Frajou, France. On the invitation he become an associate
member of the Art Resilience movement in France.
His work appears in various publications and his paintings are represented in corporate
and private collections. Internationally his paintings have been exhibited in Japan, Italy,
Portugal and France.
He lives and paints in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Europe.

STATEMENT
Paintings behind the words.
Where words ended, image
starts.
My main volition is to paint
»LIVING PAINTINGS«.
I see the art of painting as a way to
harness thoughts and to ground the
objects and the world around me on
the basis of a dialectical relatonship
between the spiritual-conceptual
and the physical-material, which is
established by transposing the concrete empirical matter into its visual articulation.
Paintings are exposures (»fotos«) of the inside. Their starting point is peace, energy – and their
process engages the accumulation of spontaneous events within the painting itself. This ends when
the result are finally viewed on the surface of the finished work. The consequence of distinction
between source and production is that there IS a moment in which the painting achieves
independent existence, and that it CAN in itself achieve a specific and passive state which surpasses
temporality.
The creative act of painting is not only a journey to the inside
but also a problematisation of reality as a settled form of
picturedness. The function of artistic perception is therefore not
just to be in the world and to search for solutions within one's
own inner reality; at the same time it renders conscious the
dialectical weaving together of certain situational and
phenomenal worlds.
The expansive tendency of colour creates an atmosphere of
sensation which is supported by the inner hierarchy of meaning
created by the form of the image. The colour is the fundamental
vehicle for deeper expressive impetuses. In the painting I'm
looking for its optimal
integration into the color
and compositional context.
Everything must be balanced, and the battlefield on the canvas
should reach its peak, its integration and its placation. A painting
comes alive as an visual organism, has personality and its
character as a living visual reality.
Abstract paintings are analytic-synthetic reflection on the
aesthetic and spiritual level. They are aphorisms of the reality,
and of the truth, feelings of everything that has happened and
will happen, feelings of horror, peace and joy.
