Sisterhood in Islam

1. “.. and hold fast, All of You together, to the Rope of Allâh (i.e. This Qur'ân), and
be not divided among yourselves - Surat Aali Imran :103
"And verily this is My Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not other paths, for
they will separate you away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you
may become pious". - Surat al-Anaam : 153
“Muslims are brothers, therefore make peace between the two brothers and fear Allah
that the mercy may be shown to you.” – Surat al Hujuraat: 10

3. Rights of a Muslim Upon His Brother
• fulfill his needs
• remain silent regarding him at times, and speak at times
• do not argue or dispute with him
• do not ask him about personal things that he wouldn’t want to reveal
• don’t reveal his secrets
• don’t insult his friends and family
• don’t inform him if others happen to insult him
• don’t say anything that could annoy him except if this involves
something that must be said
In choosing a friend, you will never find a friend
who is completely free of faults, so look for
someone whose good qualities outweighs his bad.

4. • you should remain silent from saying what you shouldn’t say, you should
also say what should be said
⮚ refer to him in the best light and praise him to others for the good that
you know of him
⮚ speak well of his family, children, actions – even his character, intellect,
appearance, personality – and everything that can make him happy
without going into extremes or saying what is untrue.
⮚ likewise, you should inform him if someone says something good about
him while showing him that you are happy about this, as to hide such
joy is tantamount to envy
• you should thank him for anything he does for you, and defend him in his
absence
• you should teach and advise him
• you should supplicate for your brother during his life and after his death
• you should make a pact to love your brother
• you should also not stop being humble with him
• do not listen to criticism of your friend from others, and that you do not
befriend his enemies

5. • you should also not task him with what he cannot bear
• you should not use his friendship to get to his wealth or resources, and
should not pressure him to go out of his way to help you
"Sins are a sickness for the brotherhood in the
religion" - Shaykh Muhammad Al Imaam
Imaam Al Bukhari narrates in his book "Adaabul Mufrad" the hadith of
Anas (ibn Malik) in which the Prophet ‫صلى‬
‫هللا‬
‫عليه‬
‫وسلم‬ said:
"Two people don't love each other for the sake of Allah
than split from one another except due to a sin one of
the two committed."

6. «So my brother be cautious from interacting with your muslim brother
oppressively, or with backbiting or nameemah or with sinful suspicion, or lying to
him, or being deceitful towards him. Also from the ways of bringing about hostility
between two brothers is the mixing in the affairs of the dunyaa. How many
brothers were close friends then they entered into business together and
became enemies.”
"And verily many partners oppress one another except those who believe and do
righteous good deeds" Surat Sad : 24

7. And There Will Be Conflicts Between Us: Have the ability to pardon and to
forgive your brother
‘Forgive and pardon up until the command of Allaah comes, and Allaah is
capable of all things.’ - Surat al-Baqarah:109

8. "And verily this is My Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not other paths, for they
will separate you away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you may
become pious". - Surat al-’Anaam ; 153
Those who spend [in Allâh's Cause - deeds of charity, alms, etc.] In prosperity
and in adversity, who repress anger, and who pardon men; Verily, Allâh loves AlMuhsinûn
(the gooddoers). Surat Aali ‘Imran : 134

9. If we see two individuals amongst our brothers & sisters who are at war with each other,
(having a conflict), try to bring about reconciliation between them. Do not fuel their
problem!!
And if two groups of the Muslims fight each other, then make peace between
them,
but if one of them commits excessiveness against the other, then fight the one that
has committed excessiveness till it reverts to the command of Allah.

10. Then if it reverts rectify between them with justice and do justice. Verily Allah loves
the equitable.
10. Muslims are brothers, therefore make peace between the two brothers and fear
Allah that the mercy may be shown to you.
This is the amr (command ) from Allaah.

11. The Messenger ‫صلى‬
‫هللا‬
‫عليه‬
‫وسلم‬ said:
Do not shun each other; do not ignore one another; do not hate one another, and do not
envy one another, and be brothers, O servants of Allah. No Muslim is allowed to shun
his brother for more than three days.) Muslim and At-Tirmidhi collected this Hadith,
who considered it Sahih.
It is not permissible for a Muslim to keep apart from his brother for more than three
days. If three days pass, he should meet him and greet him, and if he replies to it, they
will both have shared in the reward, while if he does not reply, he will bear his sin while
the Muslim (who offered him the greeting) will have been freed from the sin of keeping
apart. (Reported by Abu Daoud.)
The gates of the Garden are opened on Mondays and Thursdays, and Allah forgives
every person who does not associate anything with Allah excepting a man between
whom and his brother there is enmity. Thrice the command will be given: 'Leave the two
of them until they are reconciled.' (Reported by Muslim)

12. All of these are Qawaaid, (principles) that if we follow, will strengthen the bridges of
brotherhood.
The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel (the evil) with one which is
better (i.e. Allâah ordered the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger,
and to excuse those who treat them badly)’– Surah Fussilat: :34
The Messenger said,
"Allah will not increase His servant when he forgives except in honour. No-one
humbles himself for the sake of Allah but Allah will raise his status." Sahih Muslim,
16/141, Kitab al-birr wa'l-silah wa'ladab, bab istihbab al-'afuw wa'l-tawadu'.

13. ‘If you stretch out your hands to kill me, I will not stretch my hand out to kill you.
Verily, I fear Allaah Lord of all the dominions. I fear Allah.
That is strength --- that is Eeman and that is not weakness.
O You who believe! Enter perfectly In Islâm (by obeying all the rules and regulations
of the Islâmic religion) and follow not the footsteps of Shaitân (Satan). Verily! He is to
you a plain enemy. – Surah al-Baqarah : 208.

14. We ask Allaah that He makes us of those individuals
because it’s not easy. We ask Allaah that he makes us
from those individuals like the story of Aadam ‫عليه‬
‫السالم‬regarding his two sons.
