Tricia Callahan has eight years of journalism experience. She wrote
her first cover story as a senior in high school and her experience
has expanded exponentially since. She interned with The Village
Voice in New York City and is the CEO of No Apologies Magazine.
Working with Editor Dan Cook, I write various feature articles. This
opportunity has allowed me to write articles about local ballet
companies, fashion stylists, and other newsworthy events.

No Apologies is a self-published, music-centric magazine that I
started while I was a junior in college. I organize meetings and
deadlines for my staff and numerous contributors. I correspond with
publicists to arrange for interviews and press passes. I fact-check
and edit all content, while updating social media sites and the
subsequent website.

I write various articles commenting on songs, albums and artists
in the indie and pop rock genre. My articles take fun new spins on
songs by creating playlists. I also sporadically contribute innovate

I worked with Executive Editor Wayne Barrett and did extensive
research concerning New York political figure, Al Sharpton. During
my winter internship, I took telephone calls, handled email
correspondence, and conducted numerous interviews. Near the end
of my internship, I aided Barrett in his transition from The Village
Voice to The National Institute.

I wrote feature stories and various personal columns, and also
shadowed the Editor-in-Chief in the courthouse where I gained
experience on crime reporting. During my internship, I started,
edited and maintained a youth section entitled "The Edge.” "The
Edge" included a staff of local young reporters that I managed and
held meetings with weekly.

I worked with Youth and Entertainment Editor, Ben Sellers. I wrote
both news and feature stories. The content varied greatly, from
local political rallies to entertainment commentary. I also
maintained a bi-weekly column “In the Loop” that informed readers
of local happenings. During my time at the paper, I received a
Student Journalism Award for “Best News Writing” in 2009.
