Tonio Bahner, Attorney-at-Law, Vice President Legal and General Counsel Europe of Aleris International.
As a Fortune 500 company, Aleris is a global leader in aluminum products for the aerospace, automotive
and building and construction industries with production facilities in North America, Europe and Asia.
Tonio has practiced law for over 20 years. He began his career working for the German Governmental
Privatization Agency before joining an international law firm in Berlin, where he focused increasingly on
corporate and business law and litigation. After several years, Tonio moved in-house to provide legal
guidance to large multinational corporations in the aerospace, defense, power and metal industries in
various senior and executive roles both in Europe and in the US. His work covers all aspects of
international corporations, including corporate and commercial law, M&A, securities law and
communications, negotiations, financing, real estate, employment law, governance and compliance,
competition matters, risk management, claims and disputes.
Tonio attended universities in Germany and France, obtained both his legal degrees in Konstanz and
Düsseldorf, Germany and completed post graduate studies at the German University of Administrative
Sciences. He is a member of the German Bar Association and is also admitted to the Swiss Bar as EU-
Attorney. Tonio holds a seat in the supervisory board of a global manufacturing company in Germany.
Additionally, he is a country representative of the Association of Corporate Counsel Europe in
Switzerland and does pro-bono work for several cultural institutions.
