2. The Credential in Grain Operations Management (CGOM) and the Credential in Grain Processing
Management (CGPM) are the only formal credentials in the grain industry.
The CGOM and CGPM are each obtained by completing six
GEAPS/K-State courses. Earning a credential demonstrates
your desire to grow your knowledge of the industry and your
commitment to achievement. When you complete a credential,
you receive a certificate commemorating your accomplishment,
and you can list the credential after your name on business
cards, resumes, email signatures and your LinkedIn profile.
You can continue expanding your education and career skills
by earning Specialist Credentials in Grain Quality Management,
Grain Handling Equipment Management and Property and
Casualty Risk Management. Completion of all three specialist
credentials is required to earn a Master Credential in Grain
Operations Management.
“It amazes me how much recognition I am receiving by mentioning
I am enrolled with GEAPS/K-State during interviews. I want to move
up in my career and am willing to relocate. Companies out on the East
Coast andWest Coast know of GEAPS and it’s a huge plus for me to be
able to put my course work down on applications and on my resume.”

3. The Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) and
Kansas State University (K-State) Distance Education
Program provides online, peer-reviewed CEU courses
taught by grain industry leaders and faculty. These
courses can help improve your job skills and make you
more valuable to employers by exposing you to issues,
standards and best practices from across the industry.
Courses help you work more effectively by combining
the vast experience of GEAPS members with the
academic expertise of K-State faculty. Training can also
help your facility save money and run more efficiently
by teaching valuable project planning and time
management skills.
Each course is entirely online. Lectures and coursework
can be completed at times convenient for you over
the five weeks of the course. In addition, each course
provides structured learning modules and encourages
discussion with faculty and other students.

4. “It’s much less expensive to learn how to aerate
and dry grain correctly than it is to do it wrong.
Over-drying and under-drying both can cost
you a lot of money, especially at today’s energy
and grain prices.The GEAPS/K-State courses
on aeration and drying helped us learn how to
keep our grain in condition more efficiently. Our
understanding of when and how to run the dryers
has improved. If you think the tuition costs are too
high, consider the possible losses involving even a
small percentage of your stored grain.”
— BARB GROVE, Farmway Cooperative Inc.
“Learning about preventative maintenance
in the equipment maintenance course was
extremely helpful. Rather than implementing a
crisis-management program, which essentially
guarantees lost time labor-wise, we created a
preventative maintenance program for our facility
using a lot of ideas from the course. For example,
the course helped us improve our current
preventative maintenance book and machine
repair history book.”

6. “As demand for GEAPS/K-State courses continues to surge, our program continues to grow and
improve. In 2015, we’ll be offering 28 courses — the most ever — and four will be brand new.
We’re also offering three courses in Spanish and expanding ways for people to earn formal
credentials. If you are in the grain industry or a related profession, the opportunities to learn
and advance have never been better.”
— DOUG FORST, chair,DistanceEducationProgramOversightCommittee
“We saw a marked drop in grade loss at our company. The improvement occurred for a
variety of reasons, but one of them is our participation in GEAPS 522: FGIS Grain Inspection
Orientation. Five of our people have taken the course, and our staff applies what they have
learned every day. We’ve moved from a negative to a positive grade statement. This has been
worth close to $140,000.”
