Week Three Thrills
Week three was a patriotic week at Hidden Pines Ranch. With
songs such as “My Mind on Freedom” and “Fifty Nifty States”
sung at flag, the campers were surrounded by American spirit
throughout the whole week. Counselors Luke and Sam created
a new game for afternoon activities called “Revolutionary
War”, where campers used dodgeballs and swimming noodles
to defend the constitution. Thursday afternoon brought the
annual Counselor 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament back to the
tennis court! Campers cheered loudly for their favorite HPR
staff members. The winners of the tourney were Sam, Tom,
Luke, and Lindsay on team “Mom, I touched the Net!”
Camp Spotlight: The Animals
Our wildest campers at Hidden Pines Ranch are also everyone’s
favorite campers! The stable behind the office is home to two pigs and
two lambs. To the right of that is a large pasture that feeds all of HPR’s
ten horses that the campers love to ride. The camp also is home to
four chickens, including one named “Freckles” who enjoys roaming the
camp before she lays her daily green egg. However, no animals are as
popular as the two dogs, Dodger and Ruby (pictured on the left).
Dodger is a yellow lab that loves to nap and dive into the pond when
he gets hot. His snuggle buddy, Ruby, is a French Brittany that has
endless energy and an everlasting love for tennis balls. If Ruby doesn’t
have a tennis ball in her mouth, that means she is chasing one!

Ciqala Camp
The theme this week for Ciqala Camp was
“Community Helpers”! The campers learned
about the jobs of police officers, firefighters,
dentists, and garbage men and how they use their
profession for the benefit of all of us. Each camper
made his or her own police badge, garbage trucks,
and hand-print firemen! They also had fun at the
canoeing, horseback riding, and archery stations.
Traditional Campers
Hut, hut, hike! Traditional campers ran routes and
caught passes all week long from former all-star
quarterback, Counselor Adam. Debbie prepared the
campers for some 4th
of July fishing at the cabin with
the hook, line, and sinker activities at nature camp
craft. The campers learned how to cast and how to tie
a fishing line onto a hook. On Wednesday afternoon,
Hidden Pines Ranch caught a record 27 fish in the pond,
which was then demolished on Thursday with a total of
61 fish in one afternoon! At science, campers learned
all week about land masses and constructed their own
volcanoes and mountains out of play-doh!
Middle School
After an amazing overnight trip last week, the middle
school program switched gears and volunteered
throughout the week. They were responsible for
packing 210 boxes at Feed My Starving Children
(beating the LIT’s record from last week, not that they
boasted at all) and also traveled to Good Samaritan
Society to serve the elderly. On Monday, the middle
schoolers put on their hard hats and constructed a
new lunch table for the little Ciqala campers, with the
help of “Mr. Maintenance Man” Hunter.

Leaders in Training
Our future leaders at camp treated themselves to a
fun bike ride to Nelson’s this week! The LITs also
worked on developing their strengths as leaders by
reading through disciplinary scenarios at Hidden Pines
Ranch. As the summer progresses, each LIT is getting
more comfortable with his or her unique leading
style, as they are discovering that everyone comes to
camp with their own unique approach.
