The Mental Health Association for Greater Baton Rouge will host its inaugural Beat the Odds Casino Night & Silent Auction on May 7, 2011 at the Capitol Park Welcome Center in downtown Baton Rouge. Over 200 attendees will enjoy food, drinks, music, gaming with play money, a silent auction, and door prizes. Proceeds will support the Mental Health Association's mission to provide services for those with mental illness or substance abuse issues in the Greater Baton Rouge area, such as their Alliance House programs, BRIDGES program, and advocacy efforts.

On May 7, 2011, Mental Health Association for Greater Baton Rouge will begin a new tradition of hosting Beat
the Odds Casino Night& Silent Auction! The inaugural event will be held at The Capitol Park Welcome Center
in downtown Baton Rouge.
Two hundred plus attendees will convene in the center. Attendees will enjoy a fun evening of playing the tables
(with play money, of course) and enjoying food, cocktails, music, a silent auction and door prizes. There will
also be prizes for the top three winners.
How does this relate to mental health?
The odds of you being diagnosed with a mental illness are, unfortunately, much higher than many of the games
featured at the event. Statistics show 1 in 4 adults suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year.
MHA’s mission is to provide services for persons with or at risk for mental illness and substance abuse in the
Greater Baton Rouge area.
Your support of this event will enable Mental Health Association of Greater Baton Rouge to:
 Provide the following critical programs and services:
· Alliance House Drop-in Center
· Alliance House Residential Center
· BRIDGES
· Consumers Helping Consumers
· Independent Living Program
 Act as a referral service directing community members with questions on mental illness to the proper partner
agency
 Provide advocacy and education events to help decrease the stigma associated with mental illness
