Taj's life changed suddenly when she and her family became refugees after conflict in Pakistan. Pregnant and in labor, Taj was too modest to seek help for two days until her husband rushed her to a UNFPA clinic, where she received emergency care and delivered a healthy baby. Thanks to support for Americans for UNFPA, the clinic was able to save Taj's life. While some women caught in crises are not as fortunate, UNFPA is able to quickly provide lifesaving care to women and their families in disasters through support from donors.

without food, clean water, shelter, and medical care.
Your Generosity to Americans for UNFPA Helps Bring Relief and Hope to…
Women Caught in Zimbabwe’s Humanitarian Crisis
ongoing political turmoil has left Zimbabwe in shambles. The health care system has
collapsed, leaving maternity units barely operational … water and sanitation services
have deteriorated … and unemployment has spiked to a staggering 94%. Tragically,
the life expectancy for women is just 34 years — the lowest in the world. while the
need continues, your gifts help unFPA:
• Supply lifesaving medicines to overburdened hospitals
• Deliver medical supplies to maternity units
• Provide financial support to underpaid health workers — ensuring continued
services to expectant mothers with complications.
Cyclone Survivors in Myanmar
146,000 died when Cyclone nargis raged across Myanmar a year ago. And today,
life is a desperate struggle for the thousands of mothers and children who remain
in shelters. Your donations fund:
• Clinics and equipment to care for more than 7,000 pregnant women
• waiting homes near hospitals for women with high-risk pregnancies
• The training of 1,600 medical-aid workers to provide reproductive-health
services.
Families Displaced by Costa Rica’s Earthquake
January’s earthquake left behind a trail of devastation. Dozens of people died and
nearly 4,000 residents, primarily women and children, were displaced. Your support
enabled unFPA to:
• offer shelter and assistance to women in late stages of pregnancy and
their children
• Supply women with soap, underwear, and sanitary supplies to help them
maintain their dignity
• Distribute recreational materials for adolescents and youth living in shelters.
Access to basic reproductive care can save a mother’s life — particularly in an emergency.
$20 buys clean birthing kits for 12 pregnant women in crisis situations … $65 pays for an
emergency C-section that can save the life of a mother and child … $150 trains a teacher to
educate students about HIv and its prevention … and $1,000 covers the supplies/equipment
needed to provide backup emergency care for 500 pregnant women in a humanitarian crisis.
