1. Dear Hiring Manager,
I am an engineer. I see the world through the eyes of an engineer. My mind has been trained to look
for root problems and to develop cost effective maintainable solutions that almost never come in a box.
I have experience in Java, Javascript, Fortran, Pascal, Delphi, COCOA, APL, PL1, RPG, Assembler,
Compass, JCL, CLIST, PERL, Basic, Visual Basic, FORTH, LISP, PROLOG, dBASE, C, C++, Visual C,
JBuilder, ANT, HTML, XML, PLC, DCS, MODBUS, CASE, SQL, SAS, AutoCAD, PLSQL, Powerbuilder, TCP/IP,
SOA, WSDL, Ajax.
I have developed in Visual Café, Eclipse and Netbeans.
I have designed and implemented databases in Oracle, Sybase, MySQL, Access, dBase, SQL Server.
I have developed in Unix, Linux, Windows, IOS, AIX, OS/360, NOS , Compaq Alpha.
In the early 1990’s I recognized the need to migrate from a dedicated IRMA link environment to a more
robust TCP/IP based open architecture. I authored the cost justification that resulted in the purchase of
a class B license from Rice University and provided the communication infrastructure I needed. I then
developed and implemented EMS Web, an intranet web site which was selected by CIO magazine as one
of the top 50 in the world four years running. I leveraged this site using JAVA to provide dynamic real-time
content on standard PC’s that could serve as functional replacements for dedicated Energy
Management Consoles that cost over $100,000 each.
When ERCOT moved to a NODAL market, I designed and implemented the first working WEB Service for
handling market notifications. Since the notifications were being broadcast over the internet rather
than via a dedicated link like had been the case traditionally, I placed the listener in a DMZ and used JMS
to provide a secure event driven communication path through the firewall to the protected internal
network where the information was automatically processed and communicated to the EMS system via
TIBCO Rendezvous. I implemented an instance of MySQL on the listener to store copies of inbound
notifications in case the JMS link was down. I then implemented a monitor process that used a self -
generated heartbeat notification so that I could determine and correct any outage. The entire process
was event driven, reliable, maintainable and cost effective. After implementation, I was asked by ERCOT
and the contractors working on the notifications effort to provide technical assistance.
I have more than 15 years of experience in developing and implementing multi-threaded Java using JMS
and TIBCO Rendezvous to deliver real-time dynamic content.
I devoted 30 years to a company that began with a long history of being dedicated to their employees.
Deregulation resulted in a series of acquisitions and mergers. Through the first three rounds I was
singled out as a critical asset and paid a substantial retention bonus. In the last round we were the
acquired and the new management did not bother to even interview the current staff, so now I am
seeking a fresh start and a new set of challenging problems to solve.
I am available anytime to discuss opportunities.
