Richard Metzger, downtown Albany resident and entrepreneur, is answering area
desire for a liquor store. Broadway Plaza Liquor is soon to open operations at its 418
Broadway location.
Continued residential development and increasing business volume downtown
creates a new clientele with new demands. Mr. Metzger is investing in downtown
Albany to fill that absence. A downtown resident himself, Mr. Metzger shares in the
desire for a liquor store within walking distance of home and work.
"I saw a need in the neighborhood and I am delivering that service. Broadway Plaza
Liquor was born out of necessity," says Metzger whose business investment
surprisingly netted more than just filling a void.
At the same time Metzger was finalizing plans for Broadway Plaza Liquor, Coulson's
News owner, Steve Hutchins, sought to hand over the keys to downtown Albany's
iconic corner store. Coulson's is right next door to Broadway Plaza Liquor.
"I felt very comfortable selling to Dick Metzger," Hutchins admits. "He is a great
entrepreneur with a lot of great ideas for the future. I am ready to go, and it was fate
that Dick came along with the liquor store."
As new owner of Broadway Plaza Liquor & Coulson's News, Richard Metzger is
bringing a fresh look to the corner of Broadway & State Street. Broadway Plaza
Liquor is on track for a grand opening in July. Coulson's, keeping its name and
employees, is undergoing a remodel and remains open for business.
Metzger announces, "Our customers and neighbors will see new options and co-
promotions between the stores. It is one stop, two shops."
