1. Press Announcement on behalf of The Pars Community
For Immediate Release (14 February 2013)
The Pars Community are bemused by the Press Release issued yesterday 13 February by the current
owner of Dunfermline Athletic. At every step we have sought to be positive and seek dialogue with
Mr Masterton. The pages of the Dunfermline Press, for example, attest to this. Our meeting at the
Vine Church, only hours after the release of the statement, continued to pay tribute to the time and
money that Mr Masterton has spent on the club over 14 years.
We had proposed a half day meeting on the afternoon of Monday 18 February. However when faced
with a press release full of inaccurate and potentially misleading assumptions, a number of which we
have already corrected, and also unsubstantiated and non-specific threats of legal action in
correspondence, The Pars Community has no option but to suspend discussions in order to allow a
period of reflection. We continue to believe that meaningful dialogue is the only way forward in the
best interests of the club, but think that a, hopefully short, "time out" is called for; as we recognise
that there is considerable pressure on the current owner at the present time.
For the avoidance of doubt, the current financial plight of the club has nothing to do with The Pars
Community which has only been in existence for a matter of weeks.
We hope that talks, ideally facilitated by Supporters Direct, a national body dedicated to supporter
ownership, might re-commence shortly.
As we have said repeatedly, The Pars Community position on the forthcoming share issue is that we
cannot endorse it, but we are not advising any individual what to do in relation to this matter.
Finally we are absolutely delighted with the reaction to our presentation at the Vine Church on 13th
February. We are also heartened by the number of people joining us via our web-site at
www.thepars1885.org as well as the level of pledges made.
