If you have pen drives we will load them with the materials from each workshop and more.
You are free to photocopy and use all the materials you are given to help support your great
teaching practice.
We hope your day is filled with fun and laughter.
3. Everyone loves stories. Stories told
with feeling and expression will
live on in children’s minds for a
long, long time.
Stories are great resources with so
many uses and tools that can help
children to learn English, while
having fun and getting real hands-
on experience.
They can be plays, word treasure
hunts, chants and so much more.
4. Teaching children to read can be very
rewarding if you use lots of techniques
that support their development.
Important teaching tips:
• Talking about the story
• Vocabulary of reading
• Phonic sounds
• Segmenting and blending sounds to
make words
• Using pictures as clues
• Look for high frequency words
• Read and think
• Read in pairs
• Ask questions
5. The main reason we learn a language is to
use it!
We need to help our pupils speak and use
English with confidence.
In this workshop you will practice simple
techniques and use resources that will help
you guide your pupils and build their
confidence to ask questions, to respond to
stimuli and improve their ability to speak in
everyday English that is relevant to their
needs.
6. Grammar is an essential part of
language learning.
It is possible to help children from
early primary begin to identify
grammar building blocks, whether
phrases, sentences, or
punctuation.
Careful planning and fun activities
will help pupils understand and
use grammar items effectively in
writing and speaking.
