I
nterior design is a versatile profession that
includes conceptual development, space
planning, site inspection, programming,
research, project communication, project
management, and design execution.
Interior design is the art and science of improving
a building’s interior to achieve a healthier and
more beautiful environment for the people who
use the space. An interior designer is someone,
who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages
such remodelling projects.
Each building tells a story, a story set in its walls,
a story told by its creators. Such stories are built
from the careful work of architects and
interior designers.
These people work together to create a building
and these interior elements are functional,
beautiful, and attractive. They create spaces
around us that affect our psychology and
well-being.
Empty spaces built to perfection with a delicate
balance between planning and implementation
is the work of the architect. They create new,

colorful, interesting, creative spaces that shine
around us and do not bring boredom.
An architect is a person who designs,
assesses, and supervises the construction of
buildings. It creates a structure in the given
space that is useful and pleasing to the eye.
All details on the outside of the building are
the work of the architect.
After the construction of the building, the
interior designer is responsible for the access
and supply of free spaces in the building. As
the name suggests, these people design the
interior of the area and decorate the interior
of the place according to the purpose for
which they are used.
For example, when they get a project of a
house, they decide which sofas to put in the
room, what curtains fit the sofa, what colour
scheme should be followed in the house if it
is necessary to work on wood. Where various
pieces of furniture are placed, where drawings
can improve the appearance of the house,
what accessories such as curtains, clocks,
vases, etc. are needed to balance the room.

We would like to know about the inception story of K.R Decorate. How
do you went on to establish this business?
This company was originally the father of Miss Preawpan (MD) is a carpenter, not a
company figure. 11 years ago, Miss Preawpan took over from her father and established a
full-service decoration company. Currently starting the design and construction of housing
for 3 years and in the future, K.R.Decorate Co., Ltd. will be a full-service residential design
and construction company.
How has been K.R Decorate’s journey to date been?
In the past, we only did interior decoration in condominiums. Average and about 100 sq
m. Later began to work for a house of 200 sq m. and expanded the size to 500-1000 sq m,
respectively. At present, the design and construction of a house with a size of 1000 sq m is
under work.

while commencing your firm?
Reliability of the company, in which
customers will look at the responsibility until
the completion of the job.
Tell us about your early life and
educational background.
I have 3 siblings, all women. My father is
a carpenter. We have our own factory. My
education is a bachelor’s degree in Accounting,
and I have experience in accounting. Has
come to help manage your father’s account
after working in accounting for 10 years and
was established as K.R.Decorate Co., Ltd.
Which design themes do you enjoy
the most to work on?
I like the modern, simple style, which my
partner Mr. Korarit (Chief Designer of
K.R.Decorate) does well.

What process do you follow that
keeps you standing strong in
the competition?
Bringing customer dreams to reality
and paying attention to detail every step
of the way, and having a team of very
experienced professionals.
Tell us about your custom made
furniture service.
Factory Manager Mr. Suttipong is the
construction planner with Mr. Korarit.
The decoration process starts from the
system work, both electricity and water
supply, next is the ceiling & floor work. (In
the meantime, the furniture is up at the
factory) When the ceiling is completed, we
put the furniture in. When the woodwork
and hardware installation is complete, it
will be paintwork on furniture, ceiling &
floor, including detailing, defect inspection,
installation of wallpaper, curtains, including
loose furniture, and delivery of the work.

What will you say about your team’s contribution to building K.R.Decorate?
Everyone is very experienced and professional. Has a good team leader, both design (Mr. Korarit)
and construction (Mr. Suttipong). As-well-as system management and attention to the quality of
construction in order to deliver quality work to customers. The company’s growth to date comes from
the quality of its work, which has led to continuous recommendations from customers.
What are your views on sustainable material?
We use wooden frames made from factory waste through a new molding process.
How are you planning to increase your business reach?
Because, we pay a lot of attention to the
production process. Moreover, it is a custom
made production, so the business expansion is
quite slow. In addition, in the current situation,
we do not reduce employee salaries. But we add
more work to be responsible. And have to look
at the situation that will happen in the future to
formulate a business plan.

☐ Classroom Makeover For The Blind: The main
aim of the program is to equip all students with the
fundamental skills required for daily living and form

pupils with varying degrees of visual impairment,
and abilities thus the facility needs to cater to all. The
project intends to be a prototype for cost-effective
multi-sensory facilities aimed specifically at creating
a firm foundation for which individuals can grow
and prosper.
☐ Ahsa Farmstay: The Project addresses the issue
through the program of cultural tourism and the
adaptation of vernacular architecture for future

generations. Tourists will be living with a local host in groups
of four houses following the traditional way of Northern Thai
lifestyle. Natural ventilation is employed for cooling during
the summer and double-layer fenestration for insulation in
the winter. The aim is to learn from local know-how, culture,
and traditions thus adapting them where appropriate to
ensure relevance in present times and well into the future.
CC director and partners were happy to be a part of the learning
process of future architects. The Studio’s brief “Rethinking
Future Living” explores architectural flexibility to transform the
city for the better and critically addresses issues in our urban
fabric. With a firm focus on the public domain, students present
their research and design proposals.

With its bright colors, rich ornamentation and
sweeping, multi-tiered roofs, the temple and
palace architecture of Thailand is immediately
identifiable. It blends influences from Indian,
Khmer, Burmese, and Chinese architectural styles,
but has evolved to become a distinctive expression
of Thai culture. No visit to the country is complete
without marveling at the Grand Palace and Wat
Phra Kaew or wandering the ancient ruins of the
former Siam capitals of Ayutthaya and Sukhothai.

Marvels of Architecture in Thailand

Modern Thailand Architecture
When arriving in the city of Bangkok today, it’s
immediatelyapparentthatThailandhasalsoembraced
modern architectural styles. Soaring skyscrapers,
large-scale shopping malls, and cutting-edge designs
make up the capital’s cityscape, with many of the
buildings constructed during the building boom of
the 1980s and 1990s. Silom’s MahaNakhon towers
314 meters as the city’s tallest building, while the so-
called “Elephant Building” in Chatuchak has been
identified as one of the 20 most iconic skyscrapers
in the world in its resemblance to Thailand’s national
animal. The 90-story Baiyoke Tower II is also of note,
with a revolving observation deck on its 84th floor
where you can take in 360-degree views across this
incredible urban landscape.
Despite the move towards modernization, there is
also a renewed interest in the preservation of historic
architecture and residences in Thailand, with some
being lovingly restored into boutique hotels and
museums. Cities such as Bangkok are therefore
a fascinating mix of the old and new, showing
influences from modern trends and technology, as
well as captivating examples of Thai architectural
traditions.
Here I would like to mention some of the famous
Thailand landmarks that are symbolic and brilliantly
display the architecture of Thailand.
☐ Wat Rong Khun
The Wat Rong Khun, otherwise known as The
WhiteTemple,isrightlynamedbecauseofitswhite
color. The temple reflects the sunlight, creating
a sparkle because of the use of glasses in the
plaster. The interior of the building is ornamented
with a variety of sculptures, both traditional and
contemporary, that display the sheer brilliance of
the artist. The extravagance does not come to an
end for the temple is still a work in progress.
☐ Lebua State Tower
Situated in Bangkok’s business district, Lebua
State Tower has grown its popularity since its role
in the film The Hangover II, where the film cast
shot a scene at the tower’s restaurant and sky bar.
Standing tall at 247 meters (810 feet), the building
comprises 68 floors and a golden dome, which
can be seen from afar. The building features office
spaces, hotels, and residences.
☐ King Power MahaNakhon
With many residences, hotels, and retail, giving the
appearance of a glass-curtained square wrapped
within a spiral of cut cuboids, MahaNakhon is an
extraordinarily designed architectural wonder.
It seems to be dissolving downwards towards its
base. MahaNakhon refers to ‘Great Metropolis’
in Thai, and the name suits the structure that
seems to integrate with the city as though moving
between the sky and the ground.
☐ Robot Building
The Robot Building, otherwise known as the Bank
of Asia, was established in 1987 features a striking
design to the structure, which is known to reflect
how the banking industry has been influenced
heavily by computer technology. The building is
named as such as it represents the outlook of a
robot, with eyes and antennas. It is also known for
housing the United Overseas Bank headquarters.
☐ Wat Samphran Temple
The interior of the temple comprises magnificent
shrines and statues, one of which is a stunning
bronze statue of Buddha. However, details such as
the architect, the year of construction, etc. about
this marvel of architecture remain anonymous, to
this day.
Conclusion
Despite such innovative designs towards modernized
architecture, Thailand is a blend of culture that
attempts to preserve its heritage through its
architectural styles. Massive restoration works are
being undertaken by the government as well as
private groups to preserve the existing practices.
The architecture of Thailand is a wonder that must
be visited whenever you are in the country. A brief
knowledge about the background would be helpful
whenever you are in the place to appreciate it better.

in 1963 by prominent architect and academic M.L. Santhaya Israsena, who gave the
company his name as well as his long-term vision. He led the company until his passing

Thailand. He is succeeded by associated architect Suchet Chaorua. From 1984 until
2005, Suchet expanded S+A, producing some of the most iconic buildings in Bangkok
and strengthening S+A as a forefront design practice in Thailand. Faun Israsena is M.L.
Santhaya’s grandson. He takes over the management in 2007 and is later joined by his
partner Sophie Bughin in 2013. With their international backgrounds, Faun & Sophie

In recent years, S+A largely expanded both within
Thailand and overseas, with the recent establishment of
a branch office in Hong Kong and ongoing projects in
