Subject: Letter of Recommendation for Swati Nair
1. Name of my department and institution, and how long I have known the
applicant, and in what capacity.
(a) Professor Ralph V Locurcio, P.E., Director, Construction Management
Program, Florida Institute of Technology
(b) I have known Swati for 2 years as a masters degree student in our
Department and as a student in my classes.
2. Potential to (a) succeed in undergraduate or graduate school, (b) conduct
original research, (c) communicate effectively, (d) work cooperatively with
peers and supervisors, and (e) make unique contributions to her/her chosen
discipline and to society in general.
(a) Based on my observation of Swati’s performance in classroom work in both
objective and abstract reasoning situations I believe she is well qualified to
succeed as a practicing civil engineer. She is a good listener and is easily
coached and therefore learns from each and every assignment. Her work is
always done in a very professional manner.
(b) Swati is an organized and self-directed student. She always has a prioritized
plan for her studies and homework. She keeps track of assignments and her
performance in a very systematic way. I believe these traits, coupled with
her insight and creativity will serve her extremely well in terms of
managing her studies.
(c) My classes require students to develop and present original work in form of
oral and written presentations. Her presentations are creative and
interesting, often displaying a unique point of view. Her oral and written
expression is very good and, she has a very effective delivery style which
captures she interest of her audience.
(d) Several activities in my classes require team solutions to classroom
exercises and homework. Swati is a team player in every sense of the word.
She is a hard worker who always does her share to achieve a common
objective.

3. Comparing the applicant to other successful students that I have known in my
institution or through my interactions with other institutions.
(a) In comparison to other graduate students in my classes I would say that
Swati Nair was among the best. She was extremely attentive in class,
curious and professional in all of her assignments. She is disciplined,
systematic and thorough in her approach to the investigation and solution of
problems, making it very easy to monitor her progress and understand her
solutions. All of these characteristics will make her a very successful
professional engineer.
(b) Finally, Swati is a very competent engineer. She understands both the
technical details of any situation and also the big picture relating to how her
solution will fit into the entire project. I am confident that she will be a very
competent and productive professional.
4. In summary, I have every confidence that Swati Nair will be an outstanding
member of any engineering firm. Her integrity, personal character and work
ethics are all among the best that you will observe in a graduate student.
Respectfully submitted,
