TRAUMA DEFINED
BC Borstal Association is a non-
profit organization that has been
investing in community safety since
1948. At BC Borstal we understand
that the experience of trauma has a
significant impact on a person. The
opportunity for intervention and
healing are imperative to
supporting both individual and
community wellness.
WHO ARE WE ARE
We don’t heal in isolation, but in community
- S. Kelley Harrell
Trauma can occur when we have been
exposed to something that causes such
extreme stress our brain cannot
effectively process the experience. This
can be one experience, or repeated
experiences. So often, trauma begins
when we are only children.
In many cases the scars left from our
traumatic experiences are invisible.
Nevertheless, the impacts of our
trauma continue to invade our daily
lives and affect our whole self – mind,
body, and spirit.
