Given the box-office blunder that was the Han Solo movie and the lingering divide among fans and critics on
"The Last Jedi," much is expected from the "Star Wars" universe as we near the release of Episode IX. But
even if the final installment of the latest trilogy also flops, the franchise won’t be going away for some time. Let’s
look at what’s ahead for "Star Wars."

Firstly, controversial Last Jedi director Rian Johnson will be making a new trilogy. There’s no guarantee that this
will be a hit, though, as many hardcore fans have already started a huge campaign to discredit the director for
taking too many risks and doing away with beloved characters from the original. This should begin production
by 2020 at the earliest.
Fans are more excited about "Game of Thrones" television creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are also
making a new series of "Star Wars" films. Though the new universe will be without the Skywalker family, the
proven writing and storytelling prowess of Benioff and Weiss are this spinoff’s advantage. There’s no definite
timeline yet for when this project will commence.
Finally, in keeping with Disney’s “revolutionary” approach to the anthology, director James Mangold of "Logan"
fame is reportedly taking the helm for a planned Boba Fett film. This remains to be seen, though, given the

2. lukewarm box office reception generated by such a “solo” movie. But we can still hope the franchise pushes
through with an Obi-Wan film that has Ewan McGregor reprising his role.
