Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Steve Colby is a national and international award-winning director and cinematographer who established Pogo Pictures in 1999. When he is not overseeing one of the most active commercial production companies in the southeast, Steve Colby enjoys staying physically active by playing badminton, having built a professional badminton court on his property. The sport of badminton can trace its official roots to a set of rules authored at the Bath Badminton Club in 1877, though the sport predates these rules. While the first national championships were held in England in 1899, badminton would not make its Olympic debut for nearly a century. A summer sport, badminton was initially featured as a demonstration event in Munich during the 1972 Olympic games. Another two decades would pass before the sport was included as part of the official summer program at the 1992 Barcelona games. Barcelona hosted men’s, women’s, and doubles events, while a mixed doubles discipline was added four years later in Atlanta, Georgia. Historically, Asian countries have dominated the Olympic badminton scene, winning 69 of 76 medals awarded through 2008. China won all five gold medals at the 2012 London games. That said, England and Denmark have also enjoyed success, while Spain earned a gold medal in 2016.
