How Volcanos Errupt! By Caitlin
VOLCANO ERRUPTION: Step 1 1. Volcanos are caused when the earths plates pull apart and the magma is caused to rise to the surface. Volcanos can also occur over hotspots and where one plate dives beneath another, forcing magma to rise to the surface. Plates diving under is known as a subduction.
Step 2 The magma is travelling slowly up to the top of the volcano so it will come out the crater. As it is travelling it is getting hotter and hotter. It is collecting rock and is now boiling hot!
Step 3 The magma and rock reaches the top of the volcano and it burst out. This is called the eruption. It melts down the mountain and destroys everything. The volcano blows its top off basically!
Sounds Like Looks Like Feels Like - Lava flowing everywhere destroying everything in its path! -Rocks tumbling down from the mouth of the volcanoes crater! -Smoke and ash in the sky so that you can’t see the sun! -Looks like fireworks exploding from a mountain -A that went off and sprayed bits of rock everywhere - Rumbling and grumbling because rocks are flying everywhere -Screams of people that are getting melted by lava - Buildings Falling - Hot boiling fire running through me -Choking because all the ash and dust in the air is making me not able to breathe. -Depressing because all your belongings are being destroyed -Painful because you are getting burned by boiling objects We did this activity to extend our knowledge on natural disasters
Compare and Contrast Walt: Compare and contrast two photos, one before a natural disaster and one after. Success Criteria How will we know we have been successful. -I can identify the same in two photos -I can identify the differences between two photos -I can explain why these changes occurred                                                                                                                                                                           Before                                                          After -Trees all around it                                     -Grey and dull -Snow on top of the mountain                     -No trees anymore -It looks really pretty                                  - Everything looks like rock and there's no colour -bright and sunny                                      -boring -lively and fresh                                        - it looks like all the plant life has been covered in concrete. -healthy                                                   - it looks really unnatural       -happy                                                     -un-healthy Why did these things happen? The reason the trees and plants have all turned grey because the magma flowed over it and it made everything melt and the ground is now covered in rocks and dust. The top of the mountain has been blown off because of the lava and rock that exploded out when it erupted. Everything looks un-healthy and grey. By Caitlin We did this activity so that we could understand how much a volcano can effect the environment.
Help From The Undwerwater Volcanoes E verything was peaceful on the ocean floor under the gentle waves. Sparkling fish poked there heads out from the coral to say hello to their friends. The rays from the sun gave them light and warmth and the strands of shimmering seaweed gave them shelter and shade. Then one day it was no longer calm but rough and dark. Spears stabbed through the surface of the blue water making ripples. The spears hit fishes and the ones that missed the creatures still destroyed the coral and rocks that they sleep in. The fish that were unlucky got scooped up by a hand and never got put back. From that day on the creatures of the sea were always in grave danger. They were always on the look out for spears that would hurt them and the other fish. The spears kept coming back to take more and the creatures were getting upset. They decided that the best thing to do was to tell them those whom the humans feared the most. They were big and grey with deadly sharp edges. They had black, glaring eyes and an evil mouth which was upturned into a wicked smile. They were friends with the creatures of the sea and they were always there to help but the creatures feared them all the same, they were the Underwater Volcanoes.
All the sea creatures in Coromandel gathered around in a circle. There were crabs with giant red and purple pinchers, there were clownfish with three stipes of white over there bright orange bodies, there were starfish of all different colours and so much more. A sting-ray spoke in a booming voice, “It is time to decide who will go on this long journey to where the most aggressive Underwater Volcanoes lie”. The biggest crab that was as blue as the sky got up and said in a deep but quite voice, “We need to choose carefully and make sure that the person we pick is strong, fast and will be able to swim that far. In my opinion that is Rema Fish”. Everyone turned to look at Rema and nodded there heads in agreement. Rema stood up, “I will do it!” he yelled. The fish all clapped there fins together and all went home to sleep with no worries at all. A few days later Rema was ready for his long journey and was about to start. He said goodbye to all the fishes and crabs and set of as fast as his fins would take him. After a day of long, hard day of swimming he made it to the group of Volcanoes that he needed. When they saw him, the one closest to him said, “Hello Rema, I am Ofensiva and these are my sisters Enfadado, Mal, Escalofriante and Viejo. Do you need our help?” she stared at him suspiciously, “We need help because the humans are spearing the fish and we don’t know what to do. You are our only hope.” said Rema nervously. At this the Underwater Volcanoes eyes changed, they went black and angry. “Of course we will help you, they do not know that we exist and we will scare them out of there wits. Hopefully, that will make them stop harming us.” Rema let out a sigh of relief and asked, “When will you do it?” They Underwater Volcanoes answered. “Tonight!” they said together. When Rema heard this he said good-bye and set off in a hurry to tell the other sea creatures .
When he arrived back he was so tired and he was puffed. He yelled at the top of his lungs, “They’re doing it tonight!” Everyone jumped with joy and after a few minutes of celebration they started preparing for tonight. They had to make sure everyone was in caves and protected from the explosion that would happen in a few hours. When they were all prepared they went into the caves and hid. They waited and waited and then they heard a loud scream from the distance and a massive bang. All of a sudden the rocks were trembling and the water was bubbling. It was getting rough and everyone was sure there were huge waves on the surface. The could hear them smacking against the rocks make awful cracks. The water was getting warmer and swirling violently. All this went on for a week and it was lucky that all the sea creatures survived! When it was all over the sea creatures poked there heads out of the cave and swam around in the safe, blue water. They were never harmed again. By Caitlin
