Principal  Gaetamo  Ferrante  was  present  at  the  event  along  with  young  people,  teachers  and  employees  from   TSB   bank.  Mr   Gaetamo   expressed  his  pleasure  at  the  school  being   chosen  for  the  celebra7ons  and   praised   Work  Related  Learning  Co-‐ordinator  Jayne  Talbot  for  her  efforts  to  bring  employers  into  the  school  to  bring  the   world  of  work  alive. They   will   be   contac7ng   local   schools   to   involve   students   in   the   ‘Your   Future’   programme   of   career   events.   Three   events   or   more   will   take  place   in   each   local   authority  area.    Plans  are  underway  in  Worcestershire  working  in  partnership  with  the   local   authority;   the   Black   Country,   Coventry   and   Warwickshire   and   Greater   Birmingham  and  Solihull.    Any  school  wishing  to  par7cipate  in  the  Birmingham  events   please  contact  the  Inspira7on  Team  and  we  will  put  you  in  touch  with  the  Chamber   contact.   Up  to  70,000  young  people  across  the  country  will  meet  poten7al  employers  who  will   showcase  the  range  of  career  op7ons  open  to  them  to  help  students  plan  their  future   and   take   advantage   of   these   opportuni7es.     The   events   will  give  businesses  the   pladorm  to  meet  the  employees  of  tomorrow  and  to  talk  about  the  skills  and  quali7es   they  look  for  when  recrui7ng.     The  Chambers  of  Commerce  network,  which  covers  the  whole  of  the  country,  will  run   250   career   events   na7onally,   bringing   together   thousands   of   young   people,   businesses,  schools,  colleges  and  training   providers.   The   ini7a7ve  is  funded   by  the   Skills  Funding  Agency  and  will  run  from  September  2015  through  to  March  2016. Soldiers  for  Schools   Programme Do  you  know  about  the   ‘Soldiers  for  Schools   programme’?    As  part  of  the   Army’s  commemora7ons  of   the  centenary  of  the  First   World  War,  a  programme  has   been  developed  to  support   schools.  It  has  two  major   elements:   -‐  First  World  War  learning   resources  aimed  at  secondary   school  learners   -‐  Soldiers  to  Schools  -‐  the   op7on  for  secondary  schools   to  request  a  soldier  to  support   teaching  ac7vi7es  within  the   classroom Full  details  and  how  to  request   a  soldier  can  be  found  here   h_p://www.army.mod.uk/ training_educa7on/ 25813.aspx Welcome  Sue  TImms Sue  Timms  has  joined  the   Inspira7on  team  as  Employer   Engagement  Co-‐ordinator.     Sue  is  married  with  two  grown   up  daughters.    She  has  worked   in  the  world  of  IAG  and   educa7on  for  many  years  in  a   variety  of  roles  and   organisa7ons.   Outside  of  work  she  enjoys   researching  her  family  history   and  watching  most  sports,   especially  Formula  1.
  • 4. Employers  are  vital  to  the  con7nued  success  of  the  Inspira7on  Agenda  which  relies  on   the  posi7ve  engagement  and  experiences  of  employers  across  the  West  Midlands  from   as  many  sectors  as  possible.  Through  the  generosity  of  employers,  we  now  have   approximately  500  companies  on  our  database.     So  how  do  we  raise  the  profile  of  the  Inspira7on  Agenda  to  ensure  we  meet  all  your   requests  for  support?  Tradi7onal  methods  of  contact  such  as  face  to  face,  phones  calls   and  networking  s7ll  have  a  valid  place  but  we  have  also  embraced  newer  methods,  one   of  these  being  Twi_er.  We  have  discovered  that  geographical  areas  in  the  West   Midlands  hold  a  business  tweet  at  the  same  7me  each  week.    In  Birmingham  the   ‘Business  Hour’  takes  places  on  Wednesdays  between  8.00pm  -‐  9.00pm.  The  team  has   tweeted  at  this  7me  on  a  regular  basis  and  the  re-‐tweets  have  been  really  good.  Over   the  next  few  weeks  the  team  will  branch  out  into  the  other  areas  spreading  the  word   across  the  West  Midlands  and  encouraging  more  businesses  to  get  involved   #MidlandsHour. Here  are  some  recent  examples  of  linking  employers  with  schools  making  requests  to   the  Inspira7on  Team: Five  employers  secured  for  Cardinal  Newman  School’s  careers  fair;  two  inspira7onal   speakers  from  construc7on  and  banking  linked  up  with  Lynghall  School;  seven   employers  secured  for  George  Dixon  Academy  for  mock  interviews  and  an  inspira7onal   speaker  for  EBN  Academy. Many  thanks  to  all  the  employers  that  have  supported  the  team  since  the  start  of  the   Inspira7on  Agenda  and  Na7onal  Careers  Service  contract  in  the  West  Midlands.   Engaging  Employers Students from Lynghall School in Coventry take part in an inspiring activity from Wilmott Dixon Free  Sector  Flyers A  set  of  six  sector  flyers  are  being   made  available  to  schools  and   colleges  each  month  through  our   e-‐bulleLns  and  newsleMers. A  flyer  on  the  Retail  and   Hospitality  sector  will  be  made   available  to  download  in  future   ediLons  of    our  monthly  e-‐ bulleLns.   National   Apprenticeship   Week  2016   announced The  date  for  next  year’s  NaLonal   ApprenLceship  Week  has  been   announced,  which  will  run  from   14  to  18  March  2016.     The  week  will  include  hundreds  of   events  and  activities  across   England  to  showcase  apprentices   and  apprentice  employers.   Apprenticeships  are  thriving  in   England  and  National   Apprenticeship  Week  will   celebrate  the  positive  impact  that   both  apprenticeships  and   traineeships  have  on  individuals,   businesses  and  the  wider   economy.   Employers,  apprenLces,  business   support  organisaLons,  colleges,   training  organisaLons  and  schools   across  the  country  will  be   encouraged  to  support  the  week   by  hosLng  acLviLes  to  showcase   the  achievements  and  benefits  of   apprenLceships.   You  can  find  out  more   information  about  National   Apprenticeship  Week  by  visiting   the  .GOV  website.
  • 5. Are  you  ready  for  the  Skills  Show?
