4. Two women with hidden motivations reunite in a clash of privilege and desperation for the
love of one powerful man. Are they on the same team or is it every player for himself?
When Angelina Fuentes suspects her wealthy real estate developer husband might be
attracted to an old friend, Kristi DuPont, she makes the ultimate sacrifice and allows Kristi
to move from an income-based apartment in the hood to the Fuentes’ million-dollar home
in the Garden District. Angelina is determined to have the happy marriage she deserves,
even if it means sharing the man she loves.
Matteo has everything a man could want or need—a thriving business, money to blow,
and a sexy trophy wife. Angelina’s decision to invite Kristi into their bedroom is just the
cherry on top of his already perfect situation, but things begin to fall apart when Matteo
discovers someone is stealing from him. He’s sure the people closest to him have nothing
to do with the losses. Is he blinded by love and lust?
Kristi is used to scraping to get by and raising her nine-year-old autistic son alone, but she
trades her independence for a taste of life on Easy Street when she moves in with the
flashy couple. She realizes she shouldn’t get used to having Angelina’s affection and
Matteo’s money. Kristi has a secret. She’s not there for love or sacrifice. She’s there for
revenge.
Love. Sacrifice. Revenge.

6. Angelina Brantley-Fuentes
A Married Woman
While writing Deserving, I worried readers wouldn’t find Angelina likable
because she is a privileged individual with a near perfect life, which seemed a
recipe for disaster for a main character. However, the more I worked through
her story, the more I realized Angelina is someone many readers will love!
This driven, high-performer enters the story as the woman in charge, but it is
quickly revealed that she has some obstacles to overcome in her career and
in her marriage. Using her wits and proving she’s able to think out of the box,
Angelina comes up with an unorthodox way to get what she wants. Readers
have to go through with her to see the real Angelina.
Angelina is a woman who appears to have it
all: The big house, the successful husband,
the high-profile job. She’s lucky. So, why is she
unhappy?

7. Matteo Fuentes
A Cheating
Husband
Who doesn’t love a powerful man? Matteo Fuentes wasn’t
born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Everything he owns
came with dedication and hard work.
Matteo is a shining example of the American
dream done right. As soon as readers meet
him, it’s clear he dresses well, smells good, and
lures women like bees to honey. I wanted to
craft a character who hit every bullet point on
the list of what women want, but you can’t trust
a perfect man, so he does have his flaws.
Matteo is, first and foremost, a businessman.
Next, he’s a playboy. Last—the point where
readers pick up his story—he’s a man trying to
turn his life around and make his wife his one
and only. I think readers might have a new
book boyfriend, but this is one love match that
requires eyes wide open.

8. Kristal DuPont
An Old Friend
Kristi DuPont is immediately loveable—a woman with a lot of problems but a
lot of resilience. As the mother of a child with special needs, her
determination to provide Kaz with a better life is admirable, and I found
myself rooting for her from the sidelines, even as I threw more trouble her
way. Although Kristi gets several opportunities to take the easy way out, she
prefers to find work and take care of herself.
Kristi is humble, but proud. My favorite thing about this character is her
acceptance of other people underestimating her because there’s nothing like
seeing her quietly prove them wrong. If readers think Kristi is “just another
single mother” or simply a supporting character, they’re in for a surprise, too.
Kristi DuPont is understated, but overwhelming when you finally get to see
her full potential.

11. Love, Sacrifice & Revenge in
The Big Easy
"I wanted to show the city is
really multiple worlds coexisting--
like different planes that share the
same space--bumping, shuffling
apart, but sometimes merging in
interesting ways."
Every time I sit down to write a story,
I get to create characters and give
them conflicts to resolve, but
probably my favorite part of the
creation process is building their
worlds.
I set this story in New Orleans. I put
it here not only because it’s a
familiar place, but also because what
people who aren’t from here find

familiar about the Big Easy barely scratches the surface. Yes, we offer the best
food, and we let you roam the streets with open containers, and we host a
week-long party called Mardi Gras every year.
Yes, we suffered an historic disaster in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina almost
wiped the city off the map, an event that highlighted stark wealth disparities,
which still persist to some degree over a decade later.
This is not a disparity unique to New Orleans, but I think it uniquely molds this
exquisite location by melding cultures that might not otherwise mix well. I
wanted to show a city with multiple worlds coexisting--like different planes that
share the same space--jumping, shuffling apart, but sometimes merging in
interesting ways. And, what happens when you throw this lagniappe together is,
you see the true spirit of New Orleans.
So, in this book is a wealthy property owner, Matteo, who through his wife’s
machinations links up with one of his impoverished tenants. When people read
this book, that difference in socioeconomic backgrounds will stand out in 3D.
There’s a scene where Kristi greets Angelina, a girl she went to high school with,
as “Ma’am.” There are scenes where readers are allowed a glimpse at how
voiceless it can feel to not be a part of the upper echelon.
In other words, the setting in New Orleans is as
much about the culture of the place as the
mettle of its people, and writing gives me an
opportunity to be a voice and tell a story that
gets lost in the myriad billionaire books.
Despite the Fuentes’ excessive wealth, this isn’t
really about their money. It’s about what that
money can and cannot buy and the debts that
are owed that can't be paid off.
14. Diving into Deserving,, I knew I wanted to turn up the heat and bring my erotica A-
game, but I also knew this story had tons of plot driving the narrative. The characters
were dynamic. Their lives were jam-packed with action. I felt like they deserved the
kind of steamy sex that matched their personalities, but a plot-heavy romance novel
sometimes presents the temptation to skimp on the sex scenes to make sure all
major points are covered.
So, I had to keep my outlines and framework loose, rather than let my “plans” for the
story derail what would’ve happened naturally between Angelina, Kristi and Matteo.
In this book, sexuality is explored from several angles, and I think each intimate
connection presents a pleasant contrast from the one before. From the familiar
married straight sex between Matteo and Angelina to the trust-building, shy
exploration of a menage a trois with Kristi, I use the physical interactions to show how
these three people relate and differ.
A wealthy, privileged man like Matteo doesn’t ask for things. An entitled Angelina, of
course, comes with expectations. A struggling single woman like Kristi might be more
willing to make concessions in the bedroom. Yet, when you put them together, what
you see is a powerful Matteo unabashedly tending to the needs of his lovers, a
spoiled Angelina sharing in unexpected ways and an undemanding Kristi taking
everything she can get between the sheets.
But every great story starts with great conflict, and there is more than a little drama
underscoring the motivations of these characters. What does each person want?
That’s the first question. The second question is, Now, what do they really want?
It’s easy to see the stakes are wealth and happiness. Everyone has something to lose,
and everybody feels they deserve something. Either they can work together to have it
all or they can splinter in pursuit of their own personal desires. The three driving
forces of this book are love, sacrifice and revenge. There’s violent opposition when
they can’t have their way. There are secrets and lies because I think most great stories
have a secret or two for readers to puzzle out.
What sets Deserving apart is, there are many layers to this story, and for every secret
you figure out, there’s another one nesting within. I hope readers are ready for this. If
they enjoy reading it as much as I had fun writing it, then they’re in for a true thriller!
