How does your media product
represent particular social groups?

2. Tyler/Alice (resident evil)
The similarities between the characters Tyler and Alice is that they are both female characters left
at the end of the world, they are both of the same ethnicity, and they are both in the genre of
thriller films. Another similarity is that they are fierce and independent, over what’s happened.
The differences between Tyler and Alice is that, they are different ages, Tyler is 18 but Alice’s age is
unknown, another difference is they are taking different means to fight the world, Tyler’s trying to
fight by trying to find allies, but Alice is using her skills and weapons to help her out. The other
difference is the setting of the films ‘Lightwalker’ is set in a discrete location in one area. But
‘resident evil’ is in a variety of locations ranging from science labs and different countries.
‘Lightwalker’ is primarily set in England but its known the earth has been invaded, however
‘resident evil’ is set all across America, showing the variety of the epidemic. Resident evil is based
on a zombie invasion and ‘Lightwalker’ is about an alien invasion.

3. Tyler/Ellie (tomorrow when the war
began)
The similarities between Tyler and Ellie is that they are both relatively young, they
are also the same ethnicity. Another similarity is they both understand the situation
they have faced and are both trying to help but in different ways. A similarity
between the films is that they are both set in discrete locations. They are also similar
by the way they are dressed, both in shirts and both having the look of emptiness in
there eyes, they are both distressed about the circumstances they have been left in.
However the differences between Tyler and Ellie is that Tyler is primarily alone and
Ellie is with a group of others. The films are also set in different countries,
‘Lightwalker’ in England and ‘tomorrow when the war began’ in Australia. The sub
genres of the film are different, ‘Lightwalker’ is a sci-fi thriller and ‘tomorrow when
the war began’ is an action thriller.

4. Tyler/Selene (underworld)
The similarities between Tyler and Selene is that they are both strong female leads, they
both are dressed in dark clothing and black boots, they are both faced in a situation they
don’t know how to handle. They are also both featured in a sci-fi thriller film. Finally they
are of the same ethnicity.
However the differences between these characters is that, there ages, Tyler’s portrayed
as a young 18 year old whereas Selene Is represented as a older sophisticated woman.
Another difference of the film is the locations ‘Lightwalker’ is set in a dissolute
unpopulated area. And ‘underworld’ is set in the city with a lot of people featured.
Another difference is that ‘Lightwalker’ features aliens and ‘underworld’ features
mythical creatures e.g. vampires and Lycans.

5. Tyler/katniss (hunger games)
The similarities between Tyler and Katniss is that they are both female leads in there
film, they are also of the same ethnicity and they are both in the same similar type of
clothing, they have also both experienced grief in there life time, Katniss of her father
and Tyler of her friends and family. They are both young female characters of around the
same age and are fighting to return there country to how it should be. They are also
both in sci-fi thriller films.
The differences between Tyler and Katniss are the location of there films. ‘Lightwalker’ is
set in England in an abandoned and desolute place, whereas ‘the hunger games’ Is set in
Canada and focuses on a poor but populated area. Another difference is that they have
different enemies, Tyler has the Lightwalkers and Katniss the capitol.
