20130808 MMA Project - Atlas Customer Recognition
1. DMS Whittington MMA Project – Customer Contribution Recognition
The former Whittington Barracks is being transformed via the Midland Medical Accommodation (MMA)
Project to provide a strategic focus for Defence Medical Services (1400 personnel) at Whittington
Barracks, Lichfield by Mar 14. The project will provide the infrastructure required on the site via a three
stage incremental acquisition.
With the recent completion of the Tier Upgrade in July 13, I think Atlas should formerly acknowledge the
outstanding contribution made to the successes achieved so far on the DII F work by Cdr Simon Brown
(HQ JMC - SO1 MMA ) MMA Programme Manager.
Since coming aboard the MMA Project Simon has successfully steered the “MMA ship” through quite a
bit of choppy water, navigating it through to calmer waters only how a Naval Commander could.
Seriously – leaving the Naval metaphors aside - nothing seems to faze Simon, if it does he’s hides it very
well! He has a calmness of manner, is very personable and approachable but underneath he has a steely
determination of spirit to see the job successfully through. He is very adept at juggling all the diverse
requirements of the MMA project – not just the DII F element - and has willingly worked many
weekends to ensure that the project stays on track. He has also acted as the buffer between Atlas and
the Customer Senior Ranks when occasionally having to break the not so good news. I will always be
thankful to him for providing me with “top cover” when required.
I have now handed over the Atlas PM role at this site to one of my colleagues to see the work through to
completion, so this seems like a very appropriate time to offer my heartfelt thanks to all those
mentioned above for the assistance they have given me over the last two years. It has sometimes been a
steep learning curve, not without the odd differences of opinion on priorities etc., but I hope that all
those involved have learnt a lot and will look back on their time on the MMA Project fondly in years to
come - as I surely will.
