MASS Design Group was been
commissioned to assist the Ministry of
Health to develop a set of Typical District
Hospital plans designed for health, safety,
comfort, and dignity that can be adaptedto
future District Hospital building sites.
The first site for adaptation is the Munini
District Hospital, located in the Nyaruguru
District of the Southern Province. The
300-bed hospital was designed to adapt to
the hilly topography of the site, integrating
the landscape into the program. Waiting
areas and circulation blend into native
landscape plantings, blurring the boundary
between inside and outside.
The site plan also integrates a public
genocide memorial at the top of the hill, for
public access and commemoration.
