To become a lawyer, one must have a passion for helping clients and applying legal knowledge. Law students must earn a law degree, pass the bar exam to practice law, and gain experience working under a senior lawyer. Throughout their career, lawyers must continue learning about changes in the law, developing strong communication and drafting skills, and representing clients effectively while maintaining integrity and delivering justice.

How to Become a Successful Lawyer
1. HOW TO BECOME A LAWYER?
Every question has its own answer, and the same do have it. Before knowing how to be a
lawyer, a law student need to know the meaning of lawyer. A lawyer is a person who
practises law, as a barrister, attorney or solicitor. He applies the best knowledge he has for his
client who claims justice from him. It’s the Judge who delivers justice, but it is the action and
knowledge of the lawyer who brings up the justice to his client by using his own knowledge
of law.
In order to be dedicated as a lawyer, a law student needs to succeed in anything, you must be
dedicated. Most importantly a law student needs to have a passion. You must develop a
passion for what you do, a real burning desire to help the clients in whatever field it may be
with your knowledge of law. A lawyer always need to be updated with the course of subject,
news and judgements to furnish his knowledge. A person who succeeds as a lawyer always
do have three skills in their fingertips, they are technical knowledge, right information and
communication skills. Your first impression with client, the confidence you show to him is
what matters the most.
For a new law student, stepping in the path of being litigating lawyer can be pretty tough.
Being in the 21st Century every budding new lawyer would like earn more money at a point
of time. As we all rightly know, money cannot buy everything, in the same way, buying
happiness with our knowledge is the best part of life. In the current economic climate is
becoming increasingly important for lawyers to turn their attention to the more commercial
aspects of practise development. A lawyer need to cover these skills;, making the right
impression, adapting services to meet customer needs, handling complaints, billing, office
management, how to get more work from existing clients, how to get new clients, and much
more.
After passing from a Law School, a law student is needed to join a local, state or national bar
association. In India we have Bar Association of India, where students need to give exam for
practise law in India. After, passing the Bar test, it is expected from the budding lawyer to
find a mentor under who he can learn the basics. As in present situation law students are
going for internships, in the same way they need to work under a Senior Advocate to learn
the approach to the court. Every lawyer, no matter how old, needs a more experienced
advocate with whom to discuss the cases. A lawyer needs to wear clean and hygiene dress,
and needs to hold on to the same for his life. It is mainly known as, Black Coat which
signifies the Coat of a Lawyer. As we all know, it is the Black Colour, Black Hole which can
swallow all the darkness, evil, wrong actions into it. The same way it is expected from a
lawyer to stand like a warrior and deliver justice to its client.
An approach which need to be taken by a lawyer firstly is knowing the Law. A lawyer need
to keep himself up to date with the areas of law. Laws are amended with time, so a lawyer
needs to be updated with the same, and needs to interpret the law in such a way that the
justice can be delivered. When a client comes to discuss the case, the lawyer need to make
the client feel that you are as concerned about his problem as he is. As the client himself is
not aware of the laws, and is in a very bad position, it is the work of the lawyer to calm him
2. down, opt for a conversational style while talking to. Being too much professional with the
client is no way going to help, because the client would come near you to solve his problem,
but not to learn law. Try your best to make your client feel comfortable with you, and once
the client feels comfortable with you, start inquiring about his problem and try to determine
what remedy he seeks. Make him trust you.
A good lawyer lets the client talk, and when the client tires, ask questions that he needs
answer to so that he can give proper advice, ask for the documents and call it straight; does
the client have a case that is likely to succeed or not, if not, then what is the remedy that the
client need is likely to get. That is all.
A good lawyer needs to attend legal educational seminars and global conferences. He needs
to conduct research when needed. A lawyer is always known for his writing skills, which is
otherwise known as drafting skills. Supreme Court Judges in this 21st Century have been
complaining about the communication skills of lawyers. Most of the lawyers in our country
are not still fluent in English, due to which they use to hear a lot of sarcasm from the judges.
Being fluent in the mother tongue is not going to help to be a good lawyer, a person who
knows different languages and knows it well can excel in his life.
Lawyers in this era are keeping on cheating people with a higher pay check. As a lawyer you
should always remember that your success is not always measured by your pay check, it is
checked how you have delivered the justice to your client. Before being a lawyer, always
know one thing, “You are a Human Being First, Then a Lawyer”. Humanity matters a lot.
Always keep in mind that there are many different paths to a successful career. Cheating a
person for money is not the right path for success.
“Honesty is the Best Policy”
With this quote I would like to summarise by saying few words what Lord Krishna said,
“karmany evadhhikaras te,
ma phalesu kadachana,
ma karma- phala- hetur bhur,
ma te sango ‘stv akarmani”
“Which rightly means, you have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not
entitled to the fruits of action. Never consider yourself the cause of the results of your
activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty.” Being a lawyer if you see any evil
taking over the truth, then you should perform your duty of being a lawyer and delivering
justice.
