Editor's Notes
Hello and welcome to the presentation on immigration and importance of I-9 forms presented by myself, Shradha Khanal.
In this presentation, we shall have a clear discussion on the significance of the forms and various other aspects pertaining to immigration. We shall also discuss the reason these are of significance to the professional field.
There is a large immigrant population in USA and the immigrants live and work in USA. The immigrants have become an integral part of US society contributing to the societal growth. The immigrants live and work on US soil and enrich the workforce of the organizations they work with through diversity. However, there are various legal aspects to be considered which shall be discussed in following slides.
There are many laws which govern the work- and job-related aspects of immigrants. Immigration reform and control act makes it illegal to hire illegal immigrants and levies penalties on the companies which employ illegal immigrants. Immigration and nationality act allows the US to grant a total of 675,000 immigrant visas every year. The USA labor laws determine the employment related aspects of the immigrants.
I-9 forms are official documents which verify employment eligibility verification and are used to understand whether or not an individual is authorized to seek employment and work in US soil. I-9 form basically constitutes a mandate from the immigration reform and control act 1986. It is important for the US based employers to complete the I-9 form for the individuals hired.
The main purpose and importance of I-9 form is to understand the eligibility of the employees to work in USA soil. This must be completed and is the responsibility of the employer to get completed by the employees. However, this is completed and considered only after a job has been offered by the employer to the employee.
Through the form I-9, the employer attests that they will not willingly and knowingly employ unauthorized alien workers. Furthermore, Employer also warrants compliance with federal and state laws through I-9 forms. The employer further states that the employment is mainly conditioned under sufficient and satisfactory proof.
The contractor or the employer are required to ensure that the workplace is drug free and ensure the same in good faith. Furthermore, the employees must be required to work in a condition which is fit to perform the duties which are assigned. Each of the grievance requests for review and any other notice regarding arbitration must be provided in writing on appropriate forms. The employees must also be oriented appropriately.
This presentation has encompassed a comprehensive understanding of the different aspects related to immigration. The presentation has included understanding of immigration, various laws related to same, I-9 forms and its importance, and various clauses. These are important factors which must be considered, and would be important in professional areas.
