Mosaicist - Sheryl Crowley
Sheryl Crowley has been creating
original mosaic works since 2005. In
2009 her rich, dynamic designs were
exhibited in her solo show Vision
Éclatée-Fractured Vision at the
Salon Irène Grant-Guérette in Saint
John, New Brunswick. Her love of
mosaics has lead her to be involved in
both public and schools based art
projects and installations. She offers
classes in mosaic making through the
Saint John Arts Centre and teaches
exploratory art to young preschool
children in the Saint John area.
Sheryl holds degrees from Mount
Allison University in both Music and
Education. Since 2005 she has turned
to the art of mosaics as her medium
for creative expression.

I make visible the flowing energy and
subtle harmonies of form and colour
within the world around us.

2. Artist Statement
The infinite colours and textures are
what draw me in. I enjoy the physicality
in handling and cutting each fragment,
in forcing the slurry of grout between
the tiles. Then, in the moment when I
wipe off the excess grout and the
finished piece reveals itself... magic!
Many of my designs are generated
from my own photos. Zooming in on
these tidbits of life, I discover rich
hues and whimsical forms to play with.
Other times, the mood of an image will
be the inspiration for a mosaic.
Mosaics speak to us through the
mind’s magical ability; gathering tiny
fragments of colour and patterns of
line, revealing images that stir the
emotions and feed the imagination.
