Dear Sherri:
Thank you very much for applying to the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate
Transfer Scholarship. You were among a small group of semi-finalists whose exceptional
talents and achievements made final selections a most difficult task. I regret to inform you,
however, that you were not selected to receive a scholarship.
This year the Cooke Foundation received over 2,000 applications from students across the
country and made only 90 as recipients. Though you were not selected as a Cooke
Scholar, we applaud your many accomplishments which distinguish you from among the
other applicants. Each application was reviewed by a panel of experienced readers who
considered each student’s grades, essays, extracurricular pursuits, recommendations,
financial need, and other factors. The promise and talent of all applicants impressed both
our staff and reviewers and your distinction as a semi-finalist should not be
underestimated. Unfortunately, we could not award scholarships to all who applied.
Your designation as a Cooke Scholar semi-finalist is a significant achievement. Because
the foundation selection process is so well known among college admissions committees,
you may wish to note your designation as a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar semi-finalist on your
college admissions application. This is particularly true if you have been waitlisted or are
awaiting a decision to another scholarship or program.
I hope you will continue to challenge yourself in all aspects of your life as you transfer to a
four-year college. That you did not receive this scholarship should not deter you from
applying for others. For your convenience, we have compiled on our website a list of
resources that you might find useful as you seek additional scholarship opportunities.
