7. Normal body temp:
In healthy person, normal body temperature is
98.6F or 37 c. There is slight variation in morning
and evening temperature.
Higher in evening than morning due to increased
muscular activities.

1. Hyperthermia: Temperature above
than normal is called hyperthermia.
2.Hypothermia: Temperature below
than normal is called hypothermia.
10. Fever (Pyrexia):
It can be defined as a rise in body
temperature above 99f is called pyrexia
or fever
OR
A rise in body temperature above
normal is called fever.
13. Continuous fever
Temperature remains high, changing
not more than 1c in a day.
2.Remittent Fever
Temperature changes more than 1c and
does not reach normal within 24hours.

It is type of fever in which the body
temperature rises and then returns to
the normal daily.
4.Inverse Fever
Temperature rises in the morning and
falls in the evening . TB
15. 5. Relapsing fever
It is one in which there are brief febrile
periods followed by one or more days.
16. When we take temp:
On admission of patient in the hospital
Before and after surgery
Before and after given medicine for fever or other
Before and after giving cold sponging
When patient is in coma or shock
At the time of discharge
17. Rules for taking temp:
Patient must be at rest.
No hot or cold drinks given within five minutes of taking
temperature.
Don’t take immediately after smoking
No talking while thermometer is in patients mouth.
Dry skin if taking from axilla or groin
18. Rules for taking temp:
Leave in position for 1-3 minutes.
Read immediately and record.
