2.  Describe Pulse
 Define factors affecting on pulse

3.  The pulse is a wave of expansion felt in
elastic artery. It can be felt where an
artery crosses a bone.
 For example:
 Radial
 Temporal
 Posterior

4. In health the pulse is constant at rest but varies
with age and with person to person.
A baby 120-140bpm
1 year 100-115bpm
8-15 years 80-86bpm
An Adult 70-80bpm
Older age 60-70bpm

5.  Emotion /Activity may be double the rate, but
this quickly returns to normal on resting.

6.  Radial
 Temporal
 Carotid
 Brachial
 Femoral
 Popliteal
 Posterior Tibial
 Dorsalis Pedis
 Apical

7. 1.Radial
It can be felt just above the wrist joint over radius
bone . It is most common site for check.

8. 2.Temporal
Over temporal bone of head above and lateral to
eye.

9. 3.Carotid
Along medical edge of sterno-mastoid muscle.

10. 4.Brachial
It lies between bicep and triceps muscles at
anticubetal fossa.

11. 5.Femoral
It passes from inguinal region

12. 6.Popliteal
It lies behind knee joint

13. 7.Posterior Tibial
It passes over tibia posteriorly and can felt easily
near ankle joint below medial malleolus .

14. 8.Dorsalis pedis
Along top of foot just above the toe , dorsalis can
be felt.

15. 9.Apical
It can be felt in between 4th and 5th ribs above the
mid clavicular line below the nipple.

16. 1.Tachycardia
Rapid action of heart or fast pulse is called
tachycardia
2.Bradycardia
Slow action of heart or slow pulse is called
bradycardia
3. Irregular pulse
Pulse become fast on inspiration and slow on
expiration

17.  Exercise
 Age
 Sex
 Anxiety
 Hemorrhage
 Blood pressure
 Drug
 Increased body temperature

18.  Patient should be rest
 Arm supported
 Feel pulse before starting count
 Count for 15 second and multiply by 4, it will
give rate per minute . If irregular , and all
patient with heart disease , always count for
one minute
 Note down immediately. Use red pen or pencil
to mark on TPR chart.
