3. The pulse is a wave of expansion felt in
elastic artery. It can be felt where an
artery crosses a bone.

Radial
Temporal
Posterior
4. In health the pulse is constant at rest but varies
with age and with person to person.
A baby 120-140bpm
1 year 100-115bpm
8-15 years 80-86bpm
An Adult 70-80bpm
Older age 60-70bpm
5. Emotion /Activity may be double the rate, but
this quickly returns to normal on resting.
15. 9.Apical
It can be felt in between 4th and 5th ribs above the
mid clavicular line below the nipple.

Rapid action of heart or fast pulse is called
tachycardia
2.Bradycardia
Slow action of heart or slow pulse is called
bradycardia
3. Irregular pulse
Pulse become fast on inspiration and slow on
expiration

Arm supported
Feel pulse before starting count
Count for 15 second and multiply by 4, it will
give rate per minute . If irregular , and all
patient with heart disease , always count for
one minute

to mark on TPR chart.
