Senior Design:
Developed a Rapid Legionella Detection Kit that is capable of discovering Legionella in the field. Thus,
reducing laboratory costs, the time needed to obtain lab results, and prevention of human disease.
Role: Engineer researching the integration of gold nanoparticles for enhanced detection levels.
Laboratory Experience:
Laboratory Equipment: Atomic Force Microscopy, microplate reader, PCR thermalcycler, spectrophotometer,
gel electrophoresis apparatus, TLC (chromatography), serological pipettes, micro-pipettes, analytical balance
and basic chemistry equipment such as Bunsen burners and table top balances.
Cell culture in BSL-2 facility, western blotting, transformation of E. coli bacteria with pGLO plasmid,
determination of number of base pairs in DNA fragments through gel electrophoresis, and collection of a water
sample from snow to determine the presence of E. coli.
