2. What is Zakat ?
■ Zakat means to purify your money . It is the giving of alms to the poor
and needy, is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is obligatory upon every
adult Muslim of sound mind and means.
■ The individual must have a specific amount of wealth or savings (after
living costs, expenses etc).This is referred to as Nisaab and the amount
of Zakat to be paid is 2.5% .

3. What is Zakat ?
■ Zakat is not charity, It is not voluntary charity not
a tax but an obligation. By giving Zakat, a Muslim
is acknowledging that everything we have is
Allah’s and we do not really own it, and we should
use it to remember Allah and help those who are
in need.
■ It is also an act to help free us from excessive
desire and greed, learn self-discipline and
honesty.

■ Unequal Distribution of Wealth:
The main problem of modern economic system is unequal
distribution of wealth which is the main cause of social and economic
problem. Islamic economic system solves this problem with zakat in a
good manner. Once government implement zakat, it will
automatically solve the problem of unequal distribution of wealth
because the rich people will give zakat to poor for consumption.
■ Accumulation of Wealth
To gain economic development it is very important that any country’s
capital should circulate instead of accumulation. If capital goes
towards accumulation the economic activities will become slow.
Zakat is the best tool to circulate the money in economy.

■ Rights of Needy Persons
There are different people living in a society, there are
some people unable to earn and depend on other for
financial help through zakat. If we don’t pay zakat then
the poor and needy persons couldn’t fulfill the basic
necessities of life.
■ Effect On literacy Rate
When the rich people do not pay their zakat so it would
greatly effect on country literacy rate . Poor children
couldn’t be able to go to school , Colleges and
universities . It is one of the reason of Pakistan’s poor
literacy rate .

■ Promote Interest System
Islam is highly against the interest system.When
people don’t pay their zakat then poor people
borrow money with others on interest. So, with the
help of Zakat ,We can also get rid from Interest
system
■ Effect on Health
Another Problem is that when poor people are
unable to purchase pure food items because of the
scarcity of money. So impure food can highly
effect on their health.We have a living Example of
Thar SindhAreas . Its our fault that we don’t pay
Zakat to them so they live without the basic
nessasities of Health . Zakat funds can be utilized
in school and hospitals to help poor.

If people don’t pay their zakat then their will be a
chance of increase of poverty.
■ Unemployment
Less job opportunities & business activities can
create a lot of social evils like robbery , criminals ,
smuggling etc

■ “As for those who hoard gold and silver and do not
spend it in the way of Allāh, give them news of a painful
punishment.On the day it (i.e. the wealth) will be
heated up in the fire of Jahannam, then their foreheads
and their sides and their backs shall be branded with it
and (it will be said to them), 'This is what you had
accumulated for yourselves. So, taste what you have
been accumulating.'” (9:34-35)
■ Narrated Abu Huraira:Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever is
made wealthy by Allah and does not pay the Zakat of
his wealth, then on the Day of Resurrection his wealth
will be made like a bald-headed poisonous male snake
with two black spots over the eyes.The snake will
encircle his neck and bite his cheeks and say, 'I am your
wealth, I am your treasure.' "Then the Prophet recited
the holy verses:-- 'Let not those who withhold . . .' (to
the end of the verse). (3.180).

■ Narrated Asma:The Prophet said to me, "Do
not withhold your money, (for if you did so)
Allah would with-hold His blessings from
you.“
■ “Thirdly, if people stop paying zakāh, rain
will be withheld from them, and were it
not for the animals, no rain would fall on
them.” (Ibn Mājah, Al-Bazzār, Al-Bayhaqī)
A similar hadīth is also reported by Ibn
'Abbās radhiyallāhu 'anhu.

■ 52.5 tola = 46200 rs
