A graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Seton Melvin holds a bachelor of arts in political science and economics. Since 1996, she has served as the director of the Mount Sinai Hospital Brain Donor Program, which studies brains with clinically documented injuries. Additionally, Seton Melvin supports the arts and community organizations such as the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA). MASS MoCA is home to more than 25,000 square feet of contemporary art gallery space as well as multiple indoor and outdoor performing arts venues. Among the museum’s educational programming is Kidspace, a dedicated area where young people can participate in hands-on projects with accomplished artists from around the world. Focusing on contemporary social issues, Kidspace programs encourage children to expand their ideas about art and express themselves through various materials. In recognition of the program’s quality and value to the community, Kidspace at MASS MoCA received the 2009 Distinguished Community Arts Collaborative Award from the Massachusetts Alliance for Arts Education.
