Pope Francis
A Jubilee year takes place every twenty-five years, but can be
mandated by the Holy See in years of need. Christian Jubilees
were first introduced by Pope Boniface VIII in the year 1300,
based on tradition that stems from the Book of Leviticus in the
Old Testament of the Holy Bible.
Pope Francis has mandated that 2016 will be an Extraordinary
Jubilee of Mercy! Pilgrims from around the world will come to
the holy epicenter, Rome, in observance. Rome & the Vatican
will come alive in 2016 with pilgrims traveling from across the
world to visit all four papal basilicas in Rome and walk through
the Holy door (porta sancta) of each one, which are normally
sealed shut with cement and only opened during years of Jubi-
lee.
In 2016, we will commemorate this extraordinary year by cele-
brating with pilgrims who are coming to Rome. Our special edi-
tion Jubilee guided vacation was created in honor of the special
year, including tours of religious sights in Rome, the Vatican &
Assisi!

vintage, 2010, received a 98/100 rating
by Robert Parker which is considered
extraordinary. The 2011 won’t be opened

now! Having traveled extensively, learnt 5 languages and
met people from all walks of life, it is my job that always
reminds me that “no place on earth can continue to fas-
cinate me like Italy does”. My role during your vacation in
Italy is to make sure you have fun. I’ll travel with you, be
there to assist you with your queries and help you
experience the culture, history and, of course, the cuisine
of Italia.
Known to my friends as “The Backpacker” because my
surname translates to backpacks from the Italian word
Zainni, I was born with a passion for travel. When I was
young my mother used to tell me that I couldn’t sit in one
place for too long, always looking for new places to ex-
plore and new people to meet. That’s why I do what I do,
apart from being able to show the best of Italy to visitors, I
get to make friends from all corners of the earth. As a Tour
Director, I travel by your side, making sure your vacation
goes smoothly and being your best-friend in Italy.

A client once told me that I am as Florentine as the
Ponte Vecchio bridge. For me, although that is a very old
bridge I was compared to, I was absolutely flattered. I’m
very proud of my Florentine heritage and the fact that I
can call the Renaissance capital of the world my home.
My love for my city is a major reason as to why I became
a guide in the first place, to show visitors to my city the
incredible treasures of Florence that have captured the
hearts of artists, writers and poets for centuries.

MORE THAN JUST A BED

MENU DEL GIORNO
Did you know that the pasta dish “La Carbonara”
is made differently in Rome than anywhere else in Italy? Or
that you normally won’t find fish on the menu in towns that
are more than an hour from the Mediterranean Sea? You
could drive 20 minutes from Rome and receive a com-
pletely different pasta dish called by the same name, but
it is not the authentic Roman dish! And fish? Well, when
you think about it, it makes sense that traditional regional
cuisine is made from what is cultivated on the land of that
region!
You’ll find yourself eating local cuisine in each destination
you go to, from Carbonara in Rome to wild boar meat in
Tuscany and, of course, there is plenty of seafood in Sicily!
Meals may also be longer than what you are used to in your
home country. A quick lunch is probably 45 mins and din-
ners are a leisurely experience, lasting from 2 to 3 hours!
At the restaurants and trattorias we have hand selected
for each of our guided vacations, there will be no need to
ask if the ingredients are “all-natural” either. We support
the Slow Food movement which means local suppliers and
often wine served straight from the barrel!

Via Roma! We’ll depart Florence
early and start our journey to the

Sicilian vineyard for a wine tasting
and delicious lunch, to get your first

DAY 3: PALERMO INTRO
We will experience the flavorful
culture of the Sicilian capital city on
a morning Palermo Walking Tour of
the center. We’ll visit the local market
and have a typical “street food” style
Sicilian light lunch! In the afternoon
join us for a trip to Monreale where
we will surround ourselves with citrus
groves & olive trees, as the locals like

DAY 4: AGRIGENTO DAY
Heading into the heart of Sicily,
we’ll stop at a UNESCO site ‘Valley
of Temples’ for a guided tour you’ll
never forget. Afterwards, an abundant
lunch will await us in Agrigento at a
local trattoria. Later we’ll head to the
hills of Piazza Armerina where you’ll
stay in the former residence of an

DAY 5: ARMERINA & MODICA
Today is the sweetest day of our trip!
A local guide will take us to Villa
Romana del Casale where we’ll see
some of the best preserved ancient
Roman mosaics in the world! Next
stop is Modica to taste its famed
chocolate! Visit a chocolatier and see
how they make the renown Sicilian
chocolate before sampling the fin-
ished product. Our day will end near
Syracuse where we’ll enjoy beautiful
views from our seaside accommo-

DAY 3: THE VATICAN & ASSISI
Today is a very special day as we
enter the Vatican a full hour before
the doors open to the public. We’ll
visit the Sistine Chapel before most
tourists even enter the Vatican which
will give you a chance to truly appre-
ciate Michelangelo’s masterpiece.
We will then head back through the
museums to learn about their unique
history. Our journey through the
Vatican will finish inside the St. Pe-
ter’s Basilica where we can marvel its
grandeur, and visit the grottos un-
derneath the church to see tombs of
various kings, queens and Popes.
After some free time in Rome for
lunch we’re off to Assisi! Assisi is an
amazing village nestled into the hills
of Umbria. We’ll be staying at a clas-
sical 4 star hotel with beautiful rooms
and stunning views. After check-in
you can visit a local church for a mass
or sit at a cafe and have a drink
before dinner with the group. B, D
DAY 4: ASSISI FULL DAY
This morning we begin with an Assisi
Discovery Walking Tour of the city
center, which will get you familiar
with this unique city and start at the
Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi - a
truly special and important stop on
our journey. Walk through the medi-
eval streets to get to the Basilica of
Saint Clare where your tour will end.

DAY 5: ALL ROADS LEAD TO THE
COLOSSEUM & ROMAN FORUM
We will return to Rome (via luxury
coach) and continue exploring the
Eternal city with a trip to the Colos-
seum & Roman Forum to hear tales

formed when you make a reser-
vation with us that we accept. In

Roman Guy is not bound by,
or liable for, any description,
photograph, representation or

chased a The Roman Guy Tour
from a 3rd party we recommend

Arrival Date Departure dates
from your home country may
vary based on your global
location and time-zones. Many
international flights are over-
night and for this reason we
will provide an arrival date. If
you are unsure we recommend

FORCE MAJEURE In the case
of force majeure clients accept
the full responsibility of their trip
as a risk of travel.
Hotel Accommodation Prices
are per person, based on two
person sharing a double room
with private bath or shower.
Single rooms may be available
on select vacations in limited
numbers. Single rooms are sub-
ject to a surplus fee per itinerary.
Triple rooms may be available on
select vacations in limited num-
bers. Triple rooms are subject
to a discount which varies per
itinerary. Triple rooms will often
feature a fold away bed with plus
one double bed. Three adults
may find these rooms small and
suitcase space restricted. They
are generally more suitable for 2
adult and 1 child.
Double rooms often feature two
double beds, but are not always
available. These will be handed
out on a first come first serve
basis. Special room requests are
accepted by not guaranteed.
Free WIFI is available on most
motor-coaches as well as in
guest rooms and common areas
of most hotels. The Roman Guy
is not responsible for gaps in wifi
service in hotels or on busses.
Inter-City Transit by private
motor-coach, train, ferry or
boatis included, when necessary,
during all included itineraries.
Air Transportation is not includ-
ed in any listed prices, but can
be added and reserved by us at
market price.
Guided Vacation Due to our
smaller group sizes we often use
smaller coaches, that are still
luxury with air-conditioning and
often wifi, but often do not have
bathroom facilities. Stops will be
made frequently at rest areas,
but tour leaders are advised to
accommodate to anyone with in
need of more frequent attention.
Travel Director Guided vaca-
tions are conducted in English
by a professional Travel Director
who is licensed and certified to
conduct that specific job. The
job of a Travel Director pertains
to carrying out the set itinerary
and explaining day to day duties.
Although they may be a wealth
of knowledge, Travel Directors
are not tour guides and may not
be able to answer specific ques-
tions about history or the sites.
Admissions site-seeing admis-
sions are included in the price
of the tour as described in each
itinerary. While ‘add-on’ tours
are optional and additional,
admissions are included in the
additional purchase price as
detailed in the description.
Tour Guides are locally licensed
and highly educated on history
and culture of each individual
destination. All tour guides have
proper licensing.
Included Meals Meals are
included as detailed in every tour
description and include at least 2
courses at lunch with a non-al-
coholic beverage and at least 3
courses at dinner with at least
one glass of wine and at times
other alcoholic beverages.
Transfers Between airports,
hotels and railway stations and
piers are included as indicated
each guided itinerary. If you did
not purchase your flight from
The Roman Guy you will need
to provide your arrival and de-
parture information at the time of
booking. It is your responsibility
to update The Roman Guy with
any changes in flight status or
schedule. Failure to do so may
result in missing services and no
refund will be given for missed
arrivals / departures due to out-
dated flight information.
Porterage One large bag,
dimensions not exceeding
30”x18X10” and weight not ex-
ceeding 50 lbs (23kg). Airlines
may impose stricter weight / size
restrictions on bags. Please
check with your airline(s) directly
for their most current baggage
regulations. Each guest is also
allowed a carry-on and personal
bag such as a purse. Carry-on/
hand luggage handling is the
responsibility of each guest and
must be taken on and off the
motor coach personally.
Tips/Gratuities are included to
cover all dining-room waiters,
housekeeping staff, and porters
at hotels. Tips or gratuities for
your Motor-coach Driver, Travel
Director, Local Tour Guides are
to be extended on a voluntary
basis at the end of your vacation.
Cancellation Policy as stated
above. $250 minimum deposit
to reserve your seat and trip
must be paid in full by 60 days
prior to date unless you’ve opted
to use reoccurring billing. It is
recommended that you purchase
travel insurance to cover your
costs in the case of cancellation
or purchase our trip cancella-
tion waiver which allows you to
cancel up to the day of departure
for a loss of only the cancellation
waiver fee.
Unused Tour Elements cannot
be refunded if a traveller opts out
nor exchanged for an add-on.
Errors In the case of printing,
typographical error, verbal or
human billing error we reserve
the right to invoice or re-invoice
participants with correct billing.
Participants do have the option
to cancel for a full refund in the
case of a billing error, but can-
cellation must be made within
24 hours of acknowledgement of
the error.
Guests needing Special As-
sistance Special needs must be
communicated in writing within
90 days of your departure date.
The Roman Guy will make rea-
sonable effort to accommodate
to guests needing special assis-
tance, but The Roman Guy nor
its travel directors, tour guides,
bus drivers or any associated
persons may physically lift or
assist clients into transportation
vehicles. Guests with mobility
issues must be accompanied by
a support person to aid them.
The Roman Guy will make a
reasonable effort to accommo-
dation those with dietary needs
or allergies, but cannot take
responsibility in the case of sick-
ness or death. Travel insurance
is recommended for those with
allergies or special needs. Par-
ticipants should be aware that
the Americans with Disabilities
Act is inapplicable outside of
the United States and facilities
outside of the United States for
disabled individuals are limited.
