2. LITURGY
- a public worship – the work of Christ and that of the
Church, the Body of Christ. By virtue of our
participation in Christ's work as members of the Body,
we also participate in the divine life of the Trinity, an
eternal exchange of love between the Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit.
- Summit toward which the activity of the Church is
directed; at the same time it is the font from which all
her power flows (SC 10)
- Goal: glorification of God and sanctification of the
faithful (cf SC 10)
3. MINISTRY
• service of God, who is glorified by the loving service given to
others
• authorization by the Church’s hierarchy . . . this authorization
may require institution/ordination . . .
• based on the teaching of Christ, who showed by word and
example how to minister to people’s spiritual and temporal
needs;
• under the guidance of the Church in accordance with her
directives and decrees.
4. LITURGICAL MINISTRIES
Lay Liturgical Ministers exercise a “genuine
liturgical function. They ought, therefore, to
perform their roles with the sincere piety and
decorum demanded by so exalted ministries and
rightly expected of them by God's people” (CSL
29).
5. PRIEST
- a priest is given a sacred power to
serve God's people, to lead them to
union with God. He does this
principally by teaching the people,
shepherding them through
leadership, offering pastoral care
and spiritual guidance and
sanctifying them through the
Sacraments (CCC 1592)
6. DEACON
- deacon's ministry has three
dimensions: liturgy, word and
service. At the liturgy, he assists
the bishop and priests. At the
Mass, the deacon proclaims the
Gospel, may be invited to preach
the homily, and assists at the
altar.
7. LECTORS
The lector is instituted to proclaim
the readings from Sacred Scripture,
with the exception of the Gospel. He
may also announce the intentions
for the Prayer of the Faithful and, in
the absence of a psalmist, proclaim
the Psalm between the readings.

8. EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION
Eucharistic Minister is a
parishioner, selected by the Pastor
and mandated by the Bishop,
who serves, distributes, and
administers the Body and Blood
of Jesus Christ during the Holy
Communion or Eucharist of the
Church Service.
9. CHOIR/CANTORS
Cantors serve as the song leaders
during the celebration of the eucharist,
and, most importantly, proclaim the
psalm during Mass. Church choirs on
the other hand lead the people in
singing so that the people can take
part confidently in the liturgical
celebration.
10. USHERS
Ushers do much more than
just seat people, take up
the collection, and stand
watch in case of
emergency. They are the
"open doors" to fellow
worshipers; they welcome
each new arrival and point
them towards Christ.
11. ALTAR SERVERS
An altar server is a lay assistant to
a member of the clergy during a
Christian liturgy. An altar server
attends to supporting tasks at the
altar such as fetching and carrying,
ringing the altar bell, helping bring
up the gifts, and bringing up the
book

39. GENUFLECTION
Adoration of Jesus is expressed by the
genuflection. Because this supreme act of
reverence in our Rite, genuflecting is reserved:

in the tabernacle, monstrance or pyx.
• for his Holy Cross from its solemn veneration
during the Good Friday liturgy until the Easter
Vigil begins.
• for a relic of His Holy Cross exposed in
veneration
40. BOW
There are two bows in the modern Roman Rite:
a. The bow of the body, or deep bow,
• A bow of the body is made to the altar when
the Blessed Sacrament is not on or behind the
celebrant, before and after an incensation and
when it is specified in various rites.
b. the bow of the head.
• Is made when the three Divine Persons are
mentioned aloud (names of saints).
• Also expresses mutual respect and gratitude
before and after receiving an object or being
assisted in some way during a ceremony.
