Lt. Gen. Richard G. Trefry Award for U.S. Army History
EL DORADO HILLS, CA: June 29, 2016 – Savas Beatie’s popular and engaging Emerging Civil War series,
which guides the reader through some of the Civil War’s most important stories, has just been selected to receive
the Army Historical Foundation’s prestigious Lieutenant General Richard G. Trefry Award for 2015.
This award honors a book or a series of books that deserves special recognition for its contribution to the
literature on the U.S. Army. The Army Historical Foundation recognized series editor Chris Mackowski, chief
historian Kristopher D. White and publisher Savas Beatie LLC, “for their work on the Emerging Civil series, an
invaluable collection of Civil War battlefield guides.”
“Needless to say, this has been a monumental effort on behalf of a lot of people, and both Kris and I are deeply
grateful for all the work everyone has put in to make this series such a success,” said Mackowski. “The Trefry
Award is a testament to the contribution all of us at ECW have made to the field by connecting people to the
story of the war.”
“This series award is pleasing and humbling,” explained Savas Beatie’s Managing Director Theodore P. Savas.
“The editors and staff of the Emerging Civil War series work hard, and this is confirmation of their individual
excellence and dedication to scholarship.”
