The high cost of living in Hawaii has led to the highest homeless rates in the US. One solution is a plan to build a village of about 150 homes on Oahu for 630 homeless adults and children, with amenities like gardens, daycare, and preschool. Construction is set to begin in December 2018. Another potential solution is to build "mini houses" as low-cost housing, as has been done in Seattle, WA, since they would meet Hawaii's smaller housing permit requirements.

I am from Seattle and they have started mini housing developments in order to lower the rate of homelessness. These houses would be effective in Hawaii because they are smaller than the Hawaiian building code. It is hard to get building permits so these houses are a great way to avoid that concern. It is really important that this project comes from the community.
