PennDOT District 11 and the Rubber Manufacturers Association announced that June 1-7 would be Tire Safety Week to emphasize the importance of proper tire care and maintenance. The RMA recommends that drivers take five minutes each month to check their tires, including the spare, to ensure safety. Last year in Pennsylvania there were over 650 crashes attributed to tire failure that resulted in injuries and fatalities, so the RMA stresses the importance of regularly checking the pressure, alignment, rotation, and tread of tires.

PennDOT District 11, Rubber Manufacturers Association Announces Tire
Safety Week
Emphasizing Proper Tire Care and Maintenance
Pittsburgh – PennDOT District 11, in coordination with the Rubber Manufacturers
Association, announces Tire Safety Week will be June 1-7.
Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) emphasizes that proper tire care is simple
and essential during summer travels. They recommend getting in the habit of
taking five minutes every month to check your tires, including the spare. RMA’s
annual National Tire Safety Week enhances their “Be Tire Smart – Play your PART”
program to provide proper tire maintenance year round.
Proper tire maintenance is necessary to ensure the safety of all motorists on the
road. Last year in Pennsylvania, there were 654 crashes, 299 injuries and four
fatalities in which “tire failure” was the prime factor of the crash.
Motorists are encouraged to play their “PART” when it comes to tire maintenance by
regularly checking Pressure, Alignment, Rotation and Tread. By planning ahead,
motorists can drive safely, optimize fuel efficiency and maximize tire tread life.
