the midst." The convocations of the church,
as in camp meetings, the assemblies of the
home church, and all occasions where there is
personal labor for souls, are God's appointed
opportunities for giving the early and the
latter rain.

The object of a camp meeting is to lead all to
separate from business cares and burdens, and
devote a few days exclusively to seeking the
Lord. We should occupy the time in self-
examination, close searching of heart,
penitential confession of sins, and renewing our
vows to the Most High. If any come to these
meetings for less worthy objects, we hope the
character of the meetings will be such as to bring
their minds to the proper objects.

flock" (1 Peter 5:2, 3); and the deacons were to be

The great Apostle, who had the daily care of all the churches, has
said much in his epistles on the subject of order in the church of
Christ. It was a subject of great importance to the early church, to
preserve purity, unity and strength in the body. And it cannot be
of less importance to the church in the last days of peril, when
seeking that preparation necessary to meet the coming Judge. If
gospel order was of such vast importance that it was necessary
for Paul to dwell much upon it in his epistles to the churches, it
should not be overlooked by the people of God at this day. We
think that it has been much neglected, and that the attention of
the church should be turned to this subject, and vigorous efforts
should be put forth to restore as fast as possible the order of the
gospel

Why man got a second chance

But even as a sinner, man was in a different position from
that of Satan. Lucifer in heaven had sinned in the light of
God's glory. To him as to no other created being was
given a revelation of God's love. Understanding the
character of God, knowing His goodness, Satan chose to
follow his own selfish, independent will. This choice was
final. There was no more that God could do to save him.
But man was deceived; his mind was darkened by Satan's
sophistry. The height and depth of the love of God he did
not know. For him there was hope in a knowledge of
God's love. By beholding His character he might be
drawn back to God.

26. How Peter was to gain influence
{DA 817.1}
Peter had been restored to his apostleship, but the
honor and authority he received from Christ had not
given him supremacy over his brethren. This Christ had
made plain when in answer to Peter's question, "What
shall this man do?" He had said, "What is that to thee?
follow thou Me." Peter was not honored as the head of
the church. The favor which Christ had shown him in
forgiving his apostasy, and entrusting him with the
feeding of the flock, and Peter's own faithfulness in
following Christ, won for him the confidence of his
brethren. He had much influence in the church….

of Galilee Peter carried with him throughout his life.
Writing by the Holy Spirit to the churches, he said: "The

system in His work now no less than in the days
of Israel. All who are working for Him are to

manner. He would have his work done with
faith and exactness, that He may place the seal
of His approval upon it.
