Sam Kleeman interned at BSR during the summer of 2012, where he worked on their Future of Fuels initiative to find sustainable pathways for transportation fuels through research and stakeholder collaboration. Sam took on discrete research to identify prospects for tracing fuels back to their origin, showing both creativity and initiative by supplementing desk research with phone calls and refinery visits. His professionalism and ability to work well with diverse colleagues left a positive impression, and Eric Olson would happily work with Sam again.

To Whom It May Concern,
I am happy to provide a reference for Sam Kleeman based in his work as an intern at
BSR during the summer of 2012.
Sam worked as a member of my team on one of our most important leadership
initiatives – The Future of Fuels. The overall objective of the Future of Fuels
initiative is to find collaborative pathways to enhancing the sustainability of
available and emerging transportation fuel choices by bringing together critical
players from the corporate, NGO, and public sectors in a series of facilitated dialogs,
supported by research.
Sam took on a discrete piece of research focused on identifying the technical and
practical prospects for being able to “trace” fuels back to their point of origin. We
provided Sam with overall guiding questions for the research and left it to him to
devise an approach and get the work done.
I am happy to say that he showed both creativity and initiative in the task, providing
us with useful insights that we have been able to build upon since last year. He was
not afraid to get on the phone, and even visit a refinery or two in person, in order to
supplement his desk-based research. This was beyond expectations and added real
value to the final product.
Sam was professional in his approach and interactions, and worked well with
diverse colleagues in our San Francisco office. I would happily work with him again.
Please let me know if I can answer any specific questions.
Best Regards,
Eric Olson
