Creating context in the English Teaching Class
Coming to class day after day ,teachers need to be aware of the importance of setting
context for whatever input to be used in the lesson.
Contextualizing teaching is a main stage in each lesson.It is the moment where the
teacher links the new input to his/ her learners' lives,interests and relevance.It is at this
stage where the teacher knows exact answers to those questions:What to build on? How
to build it on ? By preparing activities answering to those questions the teacher is not
only motivating learners to learing,he is also helping them develop their awareness of
their authentic purpose for learning thus feeling such need to learn.
Focussing the point is really segnificant for making better learnerning achievements since
none of all coursebooks can provide the needed activity choice for such a phase in
teaching /learning.
For students to develop competences in a language classroom real-life contextualizing
situations are highly needed since they provide meaningful and relevent use of the
language. Thus teachers have to be attentive to how to start their lessons because a
lesson without a context may seem as giving flying information which is harder for
learners to work out to find where and how to (plant it) connect it to their lives and
needs.
A lesson starting by :Today we are going to read a text and do tasks or may be :Today we
are going to learn the past simple has no thing to do with learners' needs ,neither with
their motivation.Whereas starting a lesson inviting learners to share ideas about their
weekend activities as class or group discussions task would be a better context for
introducing the past tense.Putting learners in a real situation of the language use will
help learners feel the need to learn what is coming as input.As they share ideas about
their weekend which is an alike real life situation and too close to their interest ,they will
look for the tools ( the past tense) to do it , so they will be aware of the importance of
their learning in the way that makes their learning more efficient.
Creating context is always helping learners being where they are supposed to be .to learn
what is supposed to be learnt ,for the authentic purpose which is supposed to be .......

Creating context in the elt class

  • 1. Creating context in the English Teaching Class Coming to class day after day ,teachers need to be aware of the importance of setting context for whatever input to be used in the lesson. Contextualizing teaching is a main stage in each lesson.It is the moment where the teacher links the new input to his/ her learners' lives,interests and relevance.It is at this stage where the teacher knows exact answers to those questions:What to build on? How to build it on ? By preparing activities answering to those questions the teacher is not only motivating learners to learing,he is also helping them develop their awareness of their authentic purpose for learning thus feeling such need to learn. Focussing the point is really segnificant for making better learnerning achievements since none of all coursebooks can provide the needed activity choice for such a phase in teaching /learning. For students to develop competences in a language classroom real-life contextualizing situations are highly needed since they provide meaningful and relevent use of the language. Thus teachers have to be attentive to how to start their lessons because a lesson without a context may seem as giving flying information which is harder for learners to work out to find where and how to (plant it) connect it to their lives and needs. A lesson starting by :Today we are going to read a text and do tasks or may be :Today we are going to learn the past simple has no thing to do with learners' needs ,neither with their motivation.Whereas starting a lesson inviting learners to share ideas about their weekend activities as class or group discussions task would be a better context for introducing the past tense.Putting learners in a real situation of the language use will help learners feel the need to learn what is coming as input.As they share ideas about their weekend which is an alike real life situation and too close to their interest ,they will look for the tools ( the past tense) to do it , so they will be aware of the importance of their learning in the way that makes their learning more efficient.
