This document discusses factors related to rehabilitation adherence following a sports injury. It finds that approximately 65% of patients are non-adherent to some degree, and 13% of athletes are non-adherent to home exercise programs following a sports injury. Non-adherence can lead to higher rates of re-injury and negatively impact treatment outcomes, recovery time, and ability to return to play. Rehabilitation adherence is related to psychological factors like beliefs about rehabilitation, self-efficacy, and perceptions of benefits and barriers. Perceived benefits predict greater adherence, while perceived barriers predict lower adherence. Higher self-efficacy also predicts better rehabilitation adherence.
