3. What are the non-communicable
diseases?
The main types of NCD are cardiovascular diseases (such as heart
attacks and stroke), cancers, chronic respiratory diseases (such as
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma) and diabetes
What are 4 risk factors for non-communicable diseases?
The rise of NCDs has been driven by primarily four major risk factors: tobacco
use, physical inactivity, the harmful use of alcohol and unhealthy diets.
The epidemic of NCDs poses devastating health consequences for individuals,
families and communities, and threatens to overwhelm health systems.

6. • Diabetes is one of the four major types of non
communicable diseases (cardiovascular
disease, diabetes, cancer and chronic
respiratory diseases). It is a chronic condition
that occurs when the body either does not
produce enough insulin or cannot effectively
use the insulin it does produce.
7. HYPERTENSION
• UN Sustainable Development Goals highlight
the importance of high rates of hypertension
control for achieving target of 1/3 reduction in
non-communicable disease mortality by 2030.
It is estimated that better hypertension
control can prevent 400-500,000 premature
deaths in Pakistan.
8. BLINDNESS
• impairment in developing countries is caused
by cataract, and a further 10 percent of
blindness is caused by glaucoma. Four percent
of blindness and vision impairment is caused
by diabetes, one of the primary diseases being
addressed within the NCDs framework.
9. GERIATRIC PROBLEMS
• NCD in elderly
• But non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer,
cardiovascular disease, and diabetes can diminish seniors' quality of
life, raise health-care costs, and increase pressure on family
members who are responsible for their care
• Arthritis.
• Cancer.
• Chronic Kidney Disease.
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
• Dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, and Parkinson's Disease.
• Diabetes.
• Osteoporosis.
• Stroke.
10. ACCIDENTS
• Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are
becoming a significant burden in Pakistan, and
road traffic injuries are rapidly emerging as a
major cause of death and disability. By 2010,
cerebrovascular diseases (stroke) and road
injuries were already within the top 15 causes of
years of life lost, joined by ischemic heart disease,
diabetes mellitus, and hypertensive heart disease
in Pakistan. Road traffic injuries are expected to
be the number one killer of children aged 5-15 in
Pakistan by 2015 if current trends continue . Yet,
this burden remains largely hidden.
11. HEART DISEASE
Unhealthy diets and a lack of physical activity
may show up in people as raised blood pressure,
increased blood glucose, elevated blood lipids
and obesity. These are called metabolic risk
factors that can lead to cardiovascular disease,
the leading NCD in terms of premature deaths
